Because the 8 best defenders aren't always part of the best 9 offensive players. There are trade offs in each direction....it's what the entire thread is about.

Which is obvious. That all goes without saying. After you get to the point to where you mix and match as best you can and compensate in certain areas, then you start to try and adjust offensively/defensively. I thought that's what this thread was about.

WTF....name one time other then him diving to try and make a play that he has been a train wreck please! Laird dove for a couple earlier in the yr and missed as well! Does that make him a train wreck in the field no hes our best outfielder!

Go watch him play center field in the super last year. He hasn't gotten much better than that performance, mostly because he's a fricking second baseman.

So you think giving away a scholarship for two years didn't help them be more competitive. I swear you are a fricking piece of work sometimes.

Except you first said this...
quote:

The goal should be having the 8 best defensive players on the field. If the top 3 defensive outfielders arent playing, they should be. Having the DH allows you to play the 9 best offensive players

Regardless of the DH, if you automatically play the best 8 defenders you may not have the best 9 offensively in the lineup. We have 5 outfielders for 4 spots in the lineup. The top two defensively are the worst two offensively. Then the 2 and 3 offensively appear to be the worst defensively.

We're pretty much in agreement. Just a misunderstanding.

It helped the team yes and it is very admirable what Raph did. However, i dont think it helped the team remain competitive. We would be just fine if Raph had kept his scholarship.

Dont know how anyone can say mcmullen is one of our worst 2 outfielders. What has he done wrong out there? Have i missed it?

I've been saying this for 3 weeks now. DH Rhymes and put Laird, Foster and McMullen out there.

No way CPM DHs Raph... he's probably trying to prove his worth in the field to MLB scouts and to me, that's a great thing to do for the kid

KLVI 560AM out of Beaumont carried last night's LSU-UNO game. When did they become an affiliate of the LSU Sports Radio Network?

I don't know either but him playing right would be the easiest solution to this entire equation, but it doesn't appear to be an option so I'm assuming he must be far below the others.

ETA: and I meant of the 5 people we are discussing, not the whole team.

I always get a good laugh out of people trying to fine-tune a team that is 46-7.

So talking about ways to improve the team, if they have a good record, shouldn't happen? I'm glad you dont run tigerdroppings

We should be playing the best team available to win for LSU and not have an agenda for attempting to boost certain player's draft stock

dnm, you're right, but wrong. We should be playing the best team to win, and we are. If we were going to have the option to move Rhymes to DH, we would have to have told him so last year. He would have left, and we'd be without one of our best hitters this year. You'd have Foster in the lineup instead of Rhymes. And before you tell me Foster's average is a little better than Rhymes', I'll point out that it would be a hell of a lot lower if he was playing 9 innings every game instead of being placed in favorable situations.

Are you laughing at Mainieri? That's exactly what he's been doing.

The point of the thread is that we don't know this yet, it would be nice if we were able to find out though.
