He doesn't have to play the field either, he could DH.

I'd rather not lose McMullen's bat so Foster can DH.

You need Stevenson in center to win the CWS in my opinion.

Because Laird is a defensive liability, right?

To a degree yes and in tight post season play it can cost you. Stevenson is a much better center fielder.

It is the big mystery on this team. He's def above average in the field but he's Helenihi at the plate............it worked out that year.

He's a fricking train wreck out there. I thought last year it was just being a freshman, but he makes terrible decisions in the field. You just cannot have an error waiting to happen in the outfield. He can only DH, IMO.

Mainieri claims Stevenson might be the best defensive outfielder he's coached

I don't see it. Bad angles, not taking control as the CF, avg arm. He's not bad by any means, and is an upgrade over last year, but best that PM has coached? Landry was light years better than Stevenson, and that ain't saying much.

The team is stacked this year. There are 5 started comfortably batting over .300 and Jones and Laird are just under .300. Then you have a clutch hitting catcher with a fielding percentage of 100%. I think they can afford to have Stevenson in there primarily for his defense and speed.

He has a habit of turning singles into triples.

I'm okay with playing both Stevenson and Laird against righties but Stevenson should be on the bench against lefties. It should be Rhymes, Laird, and either McMullen or Foster.

Is McMullen just not a good fielder? Is he at least as good as Rhymes? It could alleviate some issues if he moves to right and Foster dh's. Puts Laird back at center where he seemed like an excellent center fielder.

I really don't get why people keep saying this. The only thing he did that was bad on defense was dive at a ball and let it get behind him. The way people talk, he can't even catch a pop fly.

foster is too slow in the out field yes he is a better hitter than laird but his defense in out field is weak

Some of you people don't have a fricking clue.
