the meaning of salt life

Does it make me a dumb arse because i'm not sure what Salt life is supposed to mean?
I know it must be some kind of clothing line with a reference to salt water fishing, but why does every dude in the south ride around with it on their truck.
I guess I have missed the boat on this, pun intended.
I asked a buddy of mine about it and he flipped out. Even though i spend every weekend and most of my free time hunting, fishing, camping and trail riding(ATV)with my 2 sons i now have to turn in my outdoorsman card in b/c i don't know why guys have salt life on their trucks.

You need an appropriate vehicle to sport salt life stickers

During the winter there was a "I'm so salt life..." thread from which I learned of "Salt Life" and it was a friggin' hoot.

I don't believe it's marketing anything. Just a clever idea that someone came up with to sell thousands of decals, that created a nice little income stream for themselves.
