Just got this email from the weekly Oakbourne newsletter. Thought this might be interesting to you since you are in turfgrass mgmt:

quote:

As most of you are aware, the management of the club along with our Board of Directors have been gathering information on resurfacing of greens for several years now. Along with the recommendation of our USGA Agronomist Bud White, it is thought to be in the best interest of the club to consider this project for May of 2014. One of the grasses being considered for this project is Mini-Verde which is an Ultradwarf Bermuda grass somewhat similar to our Tiff Eagle, with a few added benefits. Mini-Verde is considered a little less aggressive resulting in less grain and thatch accumulation. This is a huge benefit when referring to putting quality. Mini-Verde is one of the most popular greens grass in South Louisiana over the past couple of years. Courses that have gone to Mini-Verde in our region are as follows:
1. Baton Rouge Country - Club Baton Rouge, LA
2. Country Club of Louisiana - Baton Rouge, LA
3. Bayou Desiard Country Club - Monroe, LA
4. LA Tour Golf Course - Mathews, LA
5. The National - Westlake, LA
6. Santa Maria Golf Course - Baton Rouge, LA
7. TPC of Louisiana - Avondale, LA
8. Frasch Park - Sulphur, LA
9. Southern Pines Golf Course - Calhoun, LA
10. University Club - Baton Rouge, LA
11. Ellendale - Houma, LA (under construction 2013)
I have compiled this list of courses for those who wish to test and get a feel for Mini-Verde. I would also like to give you a little background into Mini-Verde. This grass was tested in 1998 along with Tiff-Eagle but took a backseat to a more aggressive advertising campaign. It has been around since 2001 at Pine Hills (#9 above) and also BRCC (#1 above) since 2007.

Seeing a lot people going with MiniVerde. Sawgrass has it.

Ill be working with it this summer. Testing it's shade tolerance while its being established. I'd love to work at a course when I first graduate who is resurfacing or converting their greens. A second wave of bermudagrass is coming along from when it first came along 15 years ago.
