How much four and five wides did LSU show in the Spring game? I haven't seen anything about it in the write ups

Did they use a lot of two TEs, two WRS?

One TE and three wides?

No TE and four or five wides?

I already forgot.

OBJ, Landry, and Hill.. plus Mett looked really freaking good. So there's that.

In terms of the offensive differences, I can't say that I saw all that much. Different personnel spread out a couple of times -- Connor Neighbors went into the slot and caught a pass at one point. But no new formations. No pistol, no no-huddle. The passing concepts looked largely familiar, save for a few more targets for the tight ends and a lot of screen calls (though unsuccessful ones). If there was a constant, it was that the three-level concept, called the Flood in an Air Coryell parlance. Reports that the staff let the quarterbacks call some of their own plays are interesting, and may indicate that there's come comfort with that particular read. That could be because it was one of LSU's favorite play calls last season as well.

Another interesting schematic note was that there was not a single zone-read or option play for Jennings in the game. The question there does it indicate that he's working more on the whole playbook, or are they working more towards a specific package of plays for him and simply didn't want to show anything.

ETA: Hope this helps.

The entire first half is on Youtube if you want to take a gander at it. Dont think too much was shown that has much relevance to how well play once the seasons starts

There is a recruiting board thread on WRs that is pretty interesting. Some are saying LSU will take 6 WRs in 2014 and I just don't see it. I was told 3 freshmen and a JUCO for 2014.

carrying 10+ Wrs seems like a lot, Especially if the primary offense is going to use the TE and three wides on 3rd down consistently. That is a lot of schollies and not a lot of snaps for WRs

Once the QB numbers straightens out I could see more big WRs and TEs being recruited in the future for three wides. Carrying so many QBS is not normal and I don't expect it to continue past 2013. Some QBS are going to finish without playing or transfer out

I wonder if Coach Cameron is going to run a lot of HUNH with just one back....if the FB just became a position with little to do? Dunno...Dallas needs to get here quick.

I look at HUNH as situation-specific. It is great at certain times in a game, but it can be counterproductive at times, and I think we saw that in Baltimore.

I know we typically don't run a lot of offensive plays compared to the rest of the CFB world, and I can see how, given that reality, a HUNH offense would be attractive.

However, although I am not totally against HUNH offense, I believe calling more quality offensive plays can be just as effective as running more plays (quantity-wise) in a HUNH offense.

Oh, and hey, brother.

How ya doin man.

Chip Kelly didn't run the HUNH all the time. I have no idea what his guidelines were (he's a hundred times football smarter than I), but he would alternate staying at the line and taking his time, huddling and an actual HUNH.

Mettenberger called all the plays, doesn't tell us much. Pretty strong move by Cam...gets to evaluate his QB and not give away much about is O.

LSU coaching staff didn't let anyone see anything in the spring game. NOTHING about scheme can be taken from the spring game. Nothing about play calling tendencies can be taken from the spring game. This was by design to not show the opposition shite!

CC didn't call the plays so no info about his tendencies can be garnered.

Plays were limited. So if we plan on running 5 wides ever play the spring game would give any indication of that.

It was a typical spring game. VERY vanilla. There are a lot of formations and plays we didn't see.

it looked to me like the play sheet was only 12-15 plays but you could tell that the route packages should be improved.

Also the QBs called all their plays in the spring game, so I'm sure most of the plays were with simpler formations they were more familiar with.

TE got involved. No HUNH. Saw FB on LOS on strong side. Pretty boiler plate stuff other than that. Jennings has wicked quick release and very talented.
Future beyond 2013 is very bright. Age of the offense is here.
