I know of the series and it's cult following. How does it hold up two decades later?

I may not be the best guy to ask because its my favorite show of all time. A little biased.
If you are a fan of shows that this show pre-dates (X Files, Lost, etc...) you will probably enjoy it.
If you are a fan of Lynch's film style, you will probably enjoy it.
The show was ahead of its time and I think well worth the investment of watching all 29 episodes. While the second season may lose its way somewhat (Lynch was working on multiple projects) the series in total has some classic WTF moments.
I didn't watch the show until a decade after it aired. I'm sure if it held up then, it will hold up now.

That is actually the only scene I remember from when my dad watched it.

Anyone read "The Devil's Guard" by Talbot Mundy? It had to inspire Lynch/Frost's vision of the White and Black Lodges and the supernatural element of the show. It's been 25 years since Coop...wait you gotta watch to see.

A truly groundbreaking and original show. There had never been anything like it on TV, and it was a major event in my life every week.
I say it holds up.
I say it holds up.

Easily one of the strangest and best shows every on TV. If you like David Lynch, you will love Twin Peaks.

I have vague memories of watching as a kid (the music, the midget, etc.) I decided to give it a watch as an adult. Not bad.

David Lynch creations exist in their own time and space, so the one thing I would not worry about is whether it holds up over time.
Just give it a try and see if you're hooked after a couple episodes.
