+1. Judgement call vs. knowing the rules of the game. One is arbitrary, other is concrete. Umpire is responsible for knowing it.

Yeah not knowing a simple rule correctly is worse than being blind

This, but angels call had a far bigger impact on the game though.

No World Series this year for Mr Culbreth.

I hope they do something to reign in these idiot umps. This dude doesn't know the rules. And Angel Hernandez is a blind arse hole

True, and especially at that level (MLB), and a pretty simple rule at that. On a side note, once as a LL umpire, I did blow a rule call one time regarding an overthrow. Thankfully no one gave a shite

And I have no issue with his punishment

while I don't know culbreth's track record as an ump, I still maintain that hernandez is one of the worst in MLB. God, he is so fricking terrible.

Did the team it affected protest when it happened?

Interesting that we routinely expect 2-3 player errors in a MLB box score, but when an umpire blows one (and owns up to it), cue the lynch mob.

Right. Nobody chastised Bill Buckner for his field error.

Key word, players. The game should be decided by the players, not the umps.
