If I have alcohol in my hand then my cc is locked away. I drink at parades so I don't carry there even though I would like too.

This is absolutely retarded. In what way does it make sense to say that your rights end when you walk into a Chili's and have a meal with your family or attend Thoth on a Sunday afternoon?

What's more ridiculous about it is that the parade lines are completely subjective. What if the parade crosses in front of your home and you just happen to be standing in the median armed and sober? Is that against the law?

I had heard if you are IN the parade, you shouldn't carry, but if you're not, it doesn't matter. Putting up temporary arbitrary lines is confusing and only out to hurt the law-abiding citizen. When has there ever been a story of a CC'er injuring someone at a parade? Oh that's right, NEVER, because they follow the law.

My CC class was taught by an attorney. He was very thorough with the laws and told us to use the "eye test" of whether or not to carry into an establishment. He said if it says "bar" then don't carry. But if it doesn't say "bar" then you should be just fine.

Placing all these ridiculous restrictions on the law abiding citizens who carry is just stupid. Leave us alone, is what I say.

I was told you can't sit at or in the designeted bar area of a restaurant but the rest of the tables are fine.

f a restaurant has a bar, you can carry at the restaurant part but not at the bar part. There is usually a clearly designated area.

Many times, the flooring changes from the restaurant to the bar area. Look for a change from carpet to wood, or a step up to the bar area.

That's why the bill that was introduced and amended for the off-duty cops carrying in bars would have been able to give this more clarity. I say carry in a food establishment that serves alcohol should be allowed. Just remember the .05 BAC. I will never consume while I am CCW.

This is why carrying anywhere should be fine. People act like if you're CC'ing and you're near alcohol, it's just gonna magically find its way to your mouth. CC'ers are extremely disciplined.

I asked a good friend who is a local cop and he said absolutely 100% can not carry if a restarant sells alcohol. He also backed this up with his sergeant.
So I don't know carry at your own risk I guess.

See that pisses me off. Gordon Hutchinson told us in our class that you couldn't sit in the bar area and you better not have a drop in you if you shoot somebody.

Wrong, there are two types of alcohol permits. There's a percentage of food to alcohol sales that determines the difference.

quote:

•Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.

To answer your original question, no, I don't think they have. OTOH, the laws can be rather confusing. In addition, it's not uncommon for a topic like this to end up on an internet forum and then get even MORE confusing. Let's remember, the cc class instructors are expected NOT teach their personal opinions or interpretation of the laws; they're expected to teach the curriculum administered by the LA State Police. Yes, there may be some bad info, but in general I think the instructors do a pretty good job. It's also possible what's been attributed as bad info taught by the instructor might actually be a bad recollection or interpretation of what the instructor taught.

Maybe the way he said it was that a Chili's, Applebee's or a Plucker's isn't going to have that type of license. I just wish they would clarify this shite. I will be paranoid enough carrying in the first place.

For the past 17 years, pro-gun lobbyists and many concealed handgun permit instructors have taught permit holders they may carry pistols at parades and in restaurants that sell alcohol. But law enforcement officials in New Orleans and Baton Rouge disagree.

This kind of statement upsets me. PRO-GUN LOBBYISTS are not certified by the LA State Police to serve as an instructor, nor are they involved in, teaching a concealed carry class. There's no reason to make that statement except to casually discredit the instructors and the curriculum.

I know what you mean. We discussed this at length in my class and I was just as confused as I was before we talked about it. I can see me going up to the hostess and asking to see their alcohol license to decide whether or not I can carry while I eat my wings. I think they (politicians) enjoy confusing us so they can arrest somebody who is just trying to protect themselves and their family.

Great pictures explaining what I was talking about. I was posting from a phone earlier (not that I would have posted the pictures anyways).

My CC instructor is a LEO and a competitive pistol shooter (not playing around at the range but on a national level). He taught us to stay out of bars and bar areas of restaurants. I am not saying that he knows more than any other LEO but he has the experience and teaches this shite daily. I will trust what I learned and continue to do so.

It's all about Class A GENERAL establishments
quote:

Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.

If you want to read Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950:

4 TYPES OF ALCOHOL PERMITS

Class "A" = alcohol
Class "R" = restaurant

Class A Permit designations

Bar Only
quote:

A Class A-General retail permit ..... retail outlet where beverage alcohol is sold on the premises for consumption on the premises.... .establishment must be equipped with a permanent wet bar ... non-movable sink... backbar or similar equipment for public display and to inform the public of brands and flavors offered for sale.....no person under the age of eighteen years is allowed on the premises

Bar/restaurant
quote:

A Class A-Restaurant permit shall be issued only to a "restaurant establishment" as defined by R.S. 26:73(B) and issued to a facility in conjunction with a Class "R" restaurant permit under the provisions of R.S. 26:73.

?????
quote:

A Class A-Special permit shall be issued to any facility which is situated on state-owned land, and which is being developed or operated by the state for public purposes,

Restaurant/Nightclub
quote:

Class-A-Restaurant-Conditional permit may permit any person under the age of eighteen on the premises between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
