When you argue with josh on thought provoking issues keep in mind you're arguing with someone who literally does not know the difference between "their" & "there" or when to use "accept" rather than "except." I'm not kidding.

Oh and one more thing about these bitcoins, if you own even .001 BTC, you now technically possess links to child porn, which, it goes without saying, is illegal.

YA'll Some perverts, Brah

The shite keeps getting deeper

ETA: The link I posted above does NOT contain any child porn, sorry Josh

And because every single person who owns even a sliver of a bitcoin possesses the blockchain—including yours truly, who owns about a half dollar’s worth—all Bitcoin owners now technically possess links to child porn, which, it goes without saying, is illegal.

Whoever did this poisoned the well.

So, if you now own, if you have ever owned, conducted a transaction with, or exchanged USD for bitcoin, then you have technically trafficked in child pornography. Feeling good????

Josh, Wiki, you better hope bitcoin doesn't rustle the wrong jimmies in law enforcement, or ya'll fricked.

Exactly. Now isn't the time to be running this kind of experiment.

BTC is in its INFANCY

No surprise that a very small network accepts it right now...

Why stop there?

If you've ever used the internet then "you have technically trafficked in child pornography" as well. When you browse the internet (which is nothing more than a wide-area network), you are browsing the same network on which most child porn is transmitted and accessible for viewing. Feeling good????

The article you linked seems to indicate the main btc software can be amended by anyone who wants to change it.

How can this be a good thing for the long term viability of btc?

I doubt wikipedia is as cryptographically secure as bitcoins are

Actually, I'm sure of it

I'm betting all those former bitcoin owners who have had their millions of dollars of bitcoins stolen would argue with you about that.

They can argue all they want, but nothing is idiot-proof. There are plenty of protective measures out there to secure your bitcoins. To the extent bitcoiners don't take those measures, I have no sympathy. It's like leaving gold or fiat currency lying on the back seat of your unlocked car. They have no one to blame but themselves when their stuff is stolen.

No, it's not. Just another excuse for bitcoin using an inapplicable analogy.

Not really any that aren't incredibly complicated, and I wouldn't really call any of them secure.

Know how I secure my cash? Bank keeps it in a safe. Then they also insure it. Pretty fricking sweet huh?

This.

Imagine if you had to understand cryptography, internet security and C++ to open a bank account and feel safe doing it.

People always talk about how the network is secure. It is, but so what? People still lose money because you either have to be educated enough to protect yourself or lucky enough not to fall prey to a third party.

Using bitcoin doesn't seem safe for most people. And that's ignoring the price volatility.
