I see that you responded to me so I will respond to you. Obviously OC allows for faster drawing. However, I do not believe that OCing is much of a deterrent. I believe that if a criminal is going to commit a crime, they are going to commit a crime. I just would rather not be targeted first and have the element of surprise on my side.
ETA: I am referring to a store robbery or shooting. In a mugging OC would be beneficial but that is not at the top of my concern for my daily life style nor work environment.
This ^^^ be good advice.
It is very rare to encounter an "open carrier" who has ever had any training in weapon retention. Cops usually have this training, because uniformed patrol officers have to open-carry -- and the BG , if he wishes to take the cop's gun, knows exactly where it is.
When you carry concealed, (a) the BG shouldn't even know you have a gun, and (b) surely should not know where it is on your body. This allows you to be armed, but less vulnerable to a disarm.
BTW, cops are typically trained to treat a disarm attempt as a "murder in progress." Most of the defensive handgun training classes I've taken teach this same mindset.
It's almost guaranteed that if your gun is taken from you, step two will will involve having it pointed at you. Subsequent steps will likely depend on whether or not the thug is concerned about leaving witnesses.
YMMV
