Rumor: GameStop Stops PS2 Trade-Ins in June

We've reached out to GameStop for official confirmation, but this does not seem so farfetched. I traded in a Slim about three weeks ago and got about $12 for it in store credit, and considered myself lucky. Thank God I still had the video cable. Some PS2 titles have destroy orders placed on them—meaning that they have no trade-in value, and if a customer leaves the disc, to just throw it in the trash. And, of course, the PlayStation 4 is expected to get a close-up at E3 in early June.
Truly the end of an era.

I don't think it's a rumor. I was in GameStop a couple of days ago and they had a sign in the center of the store that said exactly that

Don't see the point in trading in a functional DVD player for 12 bucks.

frick MS for requiring that stupid remote add-on for DVD functionality in the OG Xbox. I got a Xbox when it was cheap and always used my PS2 because I didn't need anything to play DVDs

GameStop will cease all PlayStation 2-related trade-ins as of June 1, according to a photo of a store display snapped by Reddit user eGORapTure, seen after the break. We contacted multiple GameStop locations and confirmed the news that all PS2 games, accessories and systems will not be accepted for trade across all US stores at that time.

Maybe yours came with it, but mine did not.

Yep. I have a PS2 in the spare room strictly as a DVD player. No way would I trade it in. Works perfect still.

I wish I still had a fat PS2. Just for nostalgia. Mine crapped out a few years back.
