You mean Shaq's 3rd year in the NBA when he averaged 28 points 13 rebounds and 6 assist?

I guess you did miss the FINALS (note I said FINALS, not regular season). Hakeem schooled him.

Yeah, cause both players were in the prime of their career during those finals.

You can tell that's nonsense with just a brief look back at the playoffs (and especially the finals) from that year

Orlando/Houston Finals: Shaq vs Hakeem Comparison:

Shaq

28 PPG
.5945 FG% (44 FGM/74 FGA)
12.5 TRB/Game
6.25 Assists/Game
2.5 Blocks/Game
0.25 Steals/Game

Hakeem

32.75 PPG
.4827 FG% (56 FGM/116 FGA)
11.5 TRB/Game
5.5 Assists/Game
2 Blocks/Game
2 Steals/Game

Although it bucks conventional wisdom a 23 year old Shaq probably outplayed Hakeem at his peak (especially note the difference in efficiency, Hakeem could not stop Shaq)

Also note in teh playoffs Hakeem had been shooting a higher field goal percentage prior to going up against Shaq. Also note Shaq's field goal percentage remained consistent in teh finals compared to the postseason as a whole - a ridiculous 60%.

Shaq averaged 28 points, (on 60% shooting), 13 rebounds, 6 assist, and 3 blocks in that series

Hakeem averaged 33 points, (on 48% shooting), 12 rebounds, 6 assist, and 2 blocks

So, Hakeem averaged 5 more points a game, but he did so by taking an average of 10 more shots a game than Shaq did

Yeah, Hakeem really schooled Shaq in that series

Starters:

Stockton
Jordan
Bird
Malone
Wilt

Bench:
Oscar
Garnett
Shaq
Hakeem
Magic
Pippen
Barkley

It was really hard for me to leave guys like Kobe, Gary Payton, and David Robinson off but I like the skills and versatility of my roster.

The one person Dream absolutely schooled during those playoffs was David Robinson. Made Robinson look second rate.

Nope. I want a headstrong player. He'd try to buddy up with the aliens and form an intergalactic super team with the martians and the aliens from Battleship.

No he didn't. I don't know how old some of you are, but after that quick 4 game sweep of a Finals, there was really no doubt who was the best center in the league. You are trying to use fg% to revise history.

And Shaq was a 23 yr old and a physical specimen. Hakeem was 32/33 and in his 11th year in the league. He obviously wasn't the athlete he was a few years prior

Oh I thought you were serious at first. You are either an irrational LBJ hater or a troll. Take your pick.

for real. no list is legit without LeBron. even if you are a LeBron hater, you can't doubt he's one of the best.

I'm old enough. Watched those finals live when I was in college. I watched Nick Andersen miss key free throws in game one and then absolutely disappear for the rest of the series. I watched Cassell, Drexler, and Horry step up and support Hakeem.

And I listened to the commentators with some disbelief... the idea that the difference between the two teams was anything to do with the Shaq/Hakeem matchup was always near-sighted Skip Bayless level stupidity. Unfortunately that quickly catapulted into conventional wisdom because the NBA was already more about marketing stars than teams or more complicated explanations.

I see you have no sense of humor.

I also left off Russell, West, Baylor, Duncan, Kareem, and Dr. J as well. Going to bitch about them or just LeBron? Hell if we are going to play fantasy, then I'll take an alternate universe Grant Hill who never got hurt over LeBron too.

Don't take everything so seriously, especially not involving athletes you never have nor ever will meet.

If only Shaq played better, then Nick Anderson wouldn't have missed all those game clinching free throws

The best center in the middle to late 90's was Shaq. Hakeem, Robinson, and Ewing had their days in the late 80's early 90's. From like 94 until 2006, Shaq was easily the best center in the NBA.

The Rockets were the better team, sure. But Hakeem was also the better center in that series. Shaq still says today, Hakeem was the best center he has ever played against.

Nah, Hakeem was better until around 96ish, then Shaq took over. And even if he wasn't, to say "easily" discredits your argument. It was very close.
