Montana didn't grade out very well with scouts apparently even though he had good numbers at ND.

Shawn Knight played for 3 teams (Saints, Broncos, Cardinals) for 1 year each. He played in 31 games and his only recorded stat was a fumble recovery (that probably rolled under him as he had already been thrown or, more likely, fell to the turf).

Yes, Shawn Knight had a statistically worse career than Jonathan Sullivan.
But cutting first round picks wasn't impossible then as it was years later. Given what we gave up for JS, it's probably a worse pick.

We traded Knight to Denver for Ted Gregory, Denver's 1st round bust from the same class as Knight, 1987.
I know the salary cap implications from cutting Sullivan probably had a greater affect on team finances than trading Knight, but at least Sullivan did SOMETHING for us.
