I don't understand why anyone with a handgun would not have a CCW permit. If Alabama doesn't reciprocate with your state, then bitch to your own state government.
And yes, the law is stupid and just about nobody follows it. You'll probably get pulled over by the one a-hole cop who will though.

I can answer that for you: A lot of us don't want our name on any official government list of gun owners.
