As far as his/her age goes, I'm guessing around 25.

Actually this reminds me of when Patrick started here. He would start a thread and get absolutely ripped for it, but would take it like a champ. Eventually everyone got use to him.

So looking back, while Jarvis Jones is a hell of a player with a lot of upside, in the back of the fans' and coaches' minds, that risk of a career-ending injury due to his spinal stenosis would always be there. So picking Vaccaro may have been the safer pick due to health reasons, as well as the Saints' secondary needing a boost, perhaps more so than the pass rushing department. What do you guys think?

You can dice it and slice it anyway you want. The fact remains the team has done a shitty job drafting defensive players. I expect nothing less or more from them at this point.

After making 6 (now 7)straight selections of defensive players with the first pick, the unit went out and created history...as the worse the game has ever seen.

That my friend is a telling fact.

Vaccaro is also a defensive play-maker who will instantly upgrade this defense.

No one is questioning this. What I and many others questioned was taking a S so high in the draft, when we could have very easily gotten a Shamarko Thomas in the third or even Baccari Rambo in the later rounds and still have gotten Jones. To me pass rusher isn't a position you can do that with in a regular basis as expect to succeed.

Others might but I personally don't think so. If it was that big of a deal he would have continued to fall. He only went two spots behind us to the Steelers.

All that said, I've come to terms with the pick. While I may have disagreed, the FO must see enough potential out of the Galette, Butler, Wilson combo to think they didn't have to go with someone like Jones early. If that truly is the case, I'm fine with Vacarro. I don't think hell be a bust by any means, in fact I think hell greatly help out our secondary. I just have to hope the FO is right about those three guys and wot regret passing up someone like Jones.

From what I've seen and read since the Saints selected Kenny Vaccaro, the people who don't agree with the pick have stated that Jarvis Jones would have been the better pick.

No matter what the front office had to gamble some this year. We needed a name next to a premier pass-rush OLB, a capable guy to learn LT, and our secondary needed an overhaul.

Most people understand that the switch to 3-4 is going to mean we need stand-out, pass rushing LBs (at least one). Yes we have a lot of guys that "should" work out fine. But to be successful in this league you have to pick your poison. I don't think that Vaccaro was a bad choice at all, I think he was the safest pick available at 15. There's very little chance he can't contribute starting next year. Jones on the other hand will have a much harder time acclimating to a "better, faster, stronger" competition.

If the choice were mine I would have nabbed Jarvis Jones, but I'm not the one being paid millions of dollars to make those kind of decisions. I ultimately have faith in the organization, and their decisions.

Except he wasn't and didn't in college. Not like Texas has any talent though.

I think one of the main reasons the Saints passed on Jarvis Jones is because of the medical issues surrounding him. The diagnosis of spinal stenosis with Jones is a big risk, as his career could end at any point due to that. I think that's the reason he fell to the Steelers, he would have gone much sooner if not for that. Also, the Saints most likely believed they could find a potential star at pass rusher later in the draft, which they may have done with Rufus Johnson and/or Chase Thomas (UDFA)

High risk high reward. I remember a guy who Miami passed on because of his shoulder injury.

They are both pretty atrocious, but i think we added a better player to the secondary than we did to the pass rush.

This was was obvious when they didn't go after an OLB early in the draft. I also think Rob Ryan covets DB's more than LB's for his system and really believes that Butler is his starter with a Galette Wilson rotation on the other side.

I'm questioning this. He player on a shitty but talented defense. He also had like 2 pick 2 ff last year. No sacks. What game was he changing?
