Shortly after Microsoft's first unveiling of IllumiRoom, we speculated that it was connected to the company's next-generation Xbox and could be similar to Project Natal—the original codename for Kinect. Microsoft originally unveiled Kinect at E3 2009 before shipping the accessory over a year later. Microsoft's hint that IllumiRoom is linked to the company's next-generation Xbox could mean we'll see a lot more at the upcoming May 21st event or at E3 in early June.

I'm thinking this. The video demonstration shows a lot of promising applications.

I will not confirm nor deny fapping while watching that vid. Now that's some legit 'next-gen' stuff.

Rumors are coming out today that this will be on the 720. They didn't specify if it was a separate purchase, although I imagine that is a safe assumption.

I doubt we'll see it at launch. I imagine it will be introduced as a separate peripheral for the Infinity ~2 years from now, much like the Kinect was for the 360.

A little gimmicky to me. It could be well implemented, but I think developers might not embrace it.

I agree. That's why I never take rumors for much more than what they are unlike some.

Sometimes companies release videos like this then the product never actually sees the light of day. It's just a cool tech demo for them.
