Can we expect a drop off in RB talent coming out of Louisiana

after the 2013 draft?
Going forward, it looks like running backs' announcements for what college team they go to will be a bigger deal than what pro team they go to.
I am predicting this drop off in the future, not just because of how talented LF is. Who the heck is going to want to play RB in the future when they can get drafted higher as a DB, LB, WR, TE or God bless us all, a QB?
Kids and their parents are smart. In Louisiana we've already had an influx of talent at OL & TE lately and a shortage of DL. With this weekends draft look for that trend to continue.
The talent isn't coming or going, it's just switching to different positions.
Coaches in Louisiana better start passing the ball more. Our best athletes are going to need to be able to do something more than run the ball in the future to go high in the draft.

Kids will always want the ball in their hands. Running back talent isn't going anywhere.

No don't think so for a RB to be a 1st round pick you have to be a every down back. Which means running, catching, and blocking so defenses won't know the plays. The problem with the backs in this draft was none of them was an every down back except for the kid out of UNC. The second problem was the every down backs that was listed didn't have the production i.e Spencer Ware. Eddie Lacy fell off because he could catch out the back field and his durability which is why he was drafted at the end of the second round

so you think a bunch of 5'9 - 6'0 tall RBs are gonna go to their HS coaches and tell them to move them to WR, TE or QB so they can get drafted earlier in the 1st round?
contrary to the secrant, there were not any big time backs in this years draft, that's why none were drafted in the first.

This. There were 2 or 3 RB's drafted in the first last year. I think this was the first time since the 60's that no RB's were drafted in the first round.

football will always be a game where talent, body type and mindset determine what position you play. name me one rb at LSU who could play cb at the level needed for the SEC.

hopefully someone will open a world class QB school that can attract, train and produce a steady supply of top tier qb talent that is program ready and headed to LSU.

You have Fournette, then Guice, then Moses as well as Trey Coleman and the kid from Rummel who was the MVP of the Eastbay All American game this year. The last 3 are all 8th graders. You could see a drop off but not for at least 5 years.

I said it would be a minimum of 5 years down the road. With the research about head trauma coming out, I could see a drop off of talent in football in general.

why is that even worth mentioning? do you think anyone on earth can predict what RBs will be coming out 5-10 years down the road? These recruiting services cant even rank JRs or sophomores much less 8th and 9th graders.

If Fournette is as good as anticipated, he will be a top 10 pick. RB talent will never be an issue.

The thread is a discussion and you think it's ridiculous because you are missing the point. It's not about ranking players per se.
He raises an interesting point: RB is becoming more and more devalued in the NFL and it could impact lower levels over time. Now it is still a glamor position, so I expect there will always be kids playing it, but you could see some kids want to play other positions.

Trent Richardson (3rd overall) Doug Martin (31st overall) and David Wilson (32nd overall) were all first round picks at running back long long ago in last seasons draft. That argument makes about as much sense as saying they shouldn't play QB because only one was drafted in the first round this year.

the only thing that was proved is that there was more depth at the position this year and more durability issues. LOL big time on you guys feeding into the "RB devalue" stage you think the NFL is getting into.
Eddie Lacy, Knile Davis, Michael Dyer, and Marcus Lattimore. Three of them had injury problems and one had major baggage after his 2010 campaign. In 2010, all these guys(Lacy was behind Trent) were the top of the game, cream of the crop, and were expected ALL, to be first round draft picks.
Latt had two injury problems and had he only had one, his production in 2012 would have got him into the first.
Lacy had injury problems and the stigma of running behind the great wall of china. Had it not also been for Yeldon's huge success coupled with both Trent and Ingram's 3.9ypc in the NFL, he goes first.
Knile Davis was seen as right there with Latt when he rushed for 1300yds and 13TDs 2yrs ago blending incredible speed and vision with power. If he came back off his injury and performed similar to 2010, his combine and production put him in the first round in a heartbeat.
Michael Dyer was another great back blending power with speed and was a 1000+yd freshman who was more of the reason of them winning the NCG than Cam. If not for his stupidity, he could have went first round also.
Pittsburgh, San Fran(with it's multitude of picks), NYJ, and Arizona were easy spots for these guys to go. Could have made a case for the Raiders, Dolphins, Bengals, Falcons, and others based on who they picked and let go in FA.
