This is a question brought up by Greeny on Mike & Mike and I thought it was pretty interesting.

I would say no, but would have said yes a few years ago.

At this point, even if his health, abilities, & performance return to his peak, there's just too much damage done in the national media/lockerroom to truly build a team around him & expect for it to go far.

nope, he is an above avg role player at best now. his child like antics could never be the center of a team and be a leader in the locker room. that role is reserved for someone with maturity and leadership, two things howard has never displayed

Absolutely.

He made a pretty terrible Magic team a contender, even getting to the Finals.

If he had the right pieces around him in the right system, it's a no brainer.

This is why I said I would have said yes 2 years ago, but these last 2 seasons have really turned me off to him.

How could he of had any better pieces this year?

I'd probably still try, but it is unlikely to ever work. He wants the superstar treatment, to be the focus of a team's offensive system and to be an unquestioned team leader, but he doesn't want to put in the work or develop the maturity necessary to do those things successfully.

Very frustrating. I used to be a huge DH fan. I still hope he figures it out before it is too late, but his window is no longer wide open.

I don't really care about much of the stuff the media throws out(not saying it isn't true)

If you're on a winning team, everyone is happy, that's all that really matters, winning...at least 99% of the time lol(see Kobe/Shaq)

Did you watch this year? The pieces fit terribly, especially the way they were used.

Not to mention, most of the pieces missed a substantial amount of time.

Another great point.

I wonder how many games the 4 of them even played together this year.

With a missed matched piece at coach. That team, healthy, running the triangle would have been interesting to see.

A very low number probably. Maybe even single digits.

They even had injury issues with role players. They were actually pretty unlucky in that sense.

The crazy thing is that they won like 2/3 of their games in the second half of the season (kept pace with okc fwiw). If Kobe did not have the Achilles injury, then they have honestly should give it one more try with that squad.

Yes. He wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but in a league that only has a few superstars compared to teams, I'd do everything to try to build around him. Besides I think the media creates a lot of the "drama" anyway.

That's the reason?

Most superstars across all sports are divas, some still win.

You could easily argue that Kobe is a diva, he did ok with teams built around him lol.

Lebron, same thing.
