Rivals are rivals, in the darkest days of the Leafs under Harold Ballard (I never speak his name only type it or write it on paper for fear of angering the hockey gods) we still tried everything in our power to kill with fire the Habs and Bruins...

Oh for sure, rivals are always rivals and it's heated.

The Pens-Flyers have been extremely heated the last few years with the playoff matchups.

Best games of the season are vs the Flyers, playoff atmosphere every time.

Doesn't mean Pens fans don't pity Flyers fans going on 30+ years without a cup and now not even in the playoffs, consistently missing their windows.

I'm 4 hours from St Louis.

Outside the City, no one knows what hockey is in the state.

Especially down here.

In St Louis, the Blues have a solid fan base and a passionate fan base, St Louis fans in general are great fans, very passionate, especially for the Cards, best fans in baseball and they do well with hockey too.

But unlike the Cardinals, the Blues don't extend outside the city, while the entire state minus KC, live and breathe the Cardinals.

When one franchise can't win a title for a longggg period of time while the other has just recently won a title, and are favorites yearly to win another, those head to heads don't really mean shite, you just laugh and pity them.

By this logic, the Maple Leafs have no rivals.

And a good rivalry doesn't care about titles or how you do against other teams. Who cares? A rival is about beating the other guy and it being the most important thing in the world. How did the last Pens-Flyers series go? I forgot.

I didn't say they weren't rivals, I said the Pens rival is the Flyers.

There are plenty of backseat secondary rivalries.

I think that's what you fail to understand, the Caps are not the Flyers, and never will be.

I didn't know this.
When I saw the Leafs/Blues Habs/Blues the times i was in St. Louis there were 2000+ Leafs/Habs Fans in attendance, this pales in comparison to the 7000 Leafs fans that show up in Buffalo/Fla./formerly Phoenix etc etc...so i just assumed that Blues fans were more loyal/passionate towards their club

i never said we would be, but your dumb claims there is no post 2009 rivalry and its not intense and claiming pens fans don't care about the caps anymore is beyond dumb.

Also saying there was only one at all was bc sid and ovie

Blues fans are loyal. Extremely passionate fans who have been through the ringer. Bandwagoners need not apply, Blues fans are hard.

That is not what I said, I said the rivalry has died down lately again, and that you wouldn't understand being overseas.

There were multiple articles posted just months ago leading up to the Pens-Caps matchup about how the rivalry is dying, between the Caps lack of success and downward trend at the time, and Crosby being injured.

Just google it, you'll find articles saying the exact same thing.

And the games this season were equally as terrible and nothing rivalry about them, it has greatly simmered. A playoff matchup would be ideal to get it back on track.

They are, that's what I said, they have a very loyal passionate fan base is exactly what I just said word for word.

They just don't extend outside the city and throughout the state because hockey is not popular really at all, especially down here.

this statement alone is beyond stupid. Ive been over seas a fricking year. Sorry you don't lose grasp of sports that fast. Then to have a person try and tell me what the rivalry is like yet he is from neither city is beyond comical.

Yeah, it's not like Pens and Caps met in the playoffs seven times in 10 years or anything. And not ancient history, it was the friggin' 90s.

Remember in 1992 when the Penguins lost more games to the Caps in the playoffs than every other team in the NHL combined? Still pisses me off. Another 3-1 series lead blown. Caps lose in the 1st round in 7, and the Pens then only lose 2 games the rest of the way. Had the Caps won that series.... sigh. Oh well. I'm sure Penguins SuperFan here remembers that series like it was yesterday.
