Yeah, it's not like Pens and Caps met in the playoffs seven times in 10 years or anything. And not ancient history, it was the friggin' 90s.

sure the ovie/sid fued not the actually pens caps rivalry that will be still here once they leave i have no idea how you can't grasp that. Its not a made up one from the media.

Right, but without Sid/Ovie you have some pretty boring games with weak atmospheres not reminiscent of a rivalry, just like this past seasons games were, very dull and absolutely nothing like the Flyers games which had playoff type atmospheres at both venues even with the Flyers being terrible.

fricking false, you are just showing your ignorance esp the battles in the 90's and early 2000's proving you are nothing more than bandwagon jumper.

you are basically saying if there was no sid or ovie, thus rivalry would be dead which is false.

put a pens sweater on and go to the phone booth and see how that works out for you and tell me its not intense.

Right now? A little bit, not completely of course not.

The rivalry was peaking the last few years with Sid/Ovie hate leading the charge.

Sid gets hurt, rivalry dies down. Caps start to struggle, dies down and leads to a pair of boring games this season. Doesn't mean the rivalry is dead, just not as strong as it was say in 2009.

The personal rivalry between Sid/Ovie is a very very large part of the current state of the rivalry. Without them it wouldn't be near the same right now.

It's kind of like the Flyers right now, without Crosby it wouldn't be the same.

Would still be a huge rivalry duh, but their hate for Crosby has instilled more hate for the Flyers.

What do the Flyers chant every single game vs the Pens? "Crosby Sucks"

Crosby fuels the rivalry with them as well.

I will once again point out our struggling Caps still largely owned the Penguins for the past four seasons. I can see why you'd want to say the rivalry "died down", what with that Winter Classic thing and the TV show. I mean, very casual rivalry there.

Look, I don't mind that you're a kid and a bandwagon jumper. Whatever, that doesn't make you special. It's that you then have no experience or knowledge of team history and then purport to speak for a fanbase when you know little to nothing about it. Frankly, you have no business saying anything about the Pens historical rivals because, as you point out, you don't know and have no emotional attachment to the history. You threw out rivals since the 60s without any knowledge of the Pens-Flyers rivalry, or lack thereof until the 90s.

If the words "Patrick Division" don't mean anything to you, then you really have no business saying who is rivals with who. Even if you are a kid, an older fan should've explained it to you. Hell, go to NHL GameCast and watch the classic games on archive. Just so you know who Ron Francis is.

Was there even a brawl during the 2009 series? I don't remember one off the top of my head but there was plenty about Sid/Ovie all over the place.
