tell you what, that thing stunk to high heaven. Phew.

Wash 'em real good. They can be some stinky bastards and they do carry salmonella, but it's worth it.

I let em go, my four year old just likes to fight em up to the bank. They give a nice pull.

My daughter caught about a 12 lb softshell last summer while catfishing and wouldn't let me keep him. She'll eat 'em but doesn't want to know where the meat comes from.

Possible but not likely.

Mostly an urban myth. The chicken used to feed them has salmonella.

Tenfoe taught me the aforementioned.

Do you clean a softshell the same as a snapper?
Dunno. Haven't caught one big enough to clean. W is your man on that one.

I've been slacking this year. Haven't fished turtles like I should. Been staying too busy. All that being said, I must be living right. Found this guy crossing the road on the way to church this morning. The looks on the faces of the old ladies at church were priceless when my daughter announced "we were late because we had to stop and catch a turtle. Daddy said it's ok to be late if you are catching a turtle or spotted cats. I'm gonna eat the turtle on Wednesday."

Daaaaaaamn.

I'm assuming those were in the church turtle?

If so, God loves men who love turtles.

ETA: I'd eat enough to get really full then try and hatch the rest.

Would trying to hatch them be a viable idea?

The Lord is good.

So are turtles.

We both may be part Asian.

Didn't you have a softie?
Your softie had eggs?

What did you do with the eggs?
How was the sauce piquant?

Sorry for the Spanish Inquisition...

You guys will beat me up for this but I saw an alligator snapper that was at least 24 inches long crossing Highland neat Sammy's two weeks ago. I stopped traffic and got it across the street. I love a good turtle soup or sauce picante but I'm just not going to clean that fricker.

That and I was scared like a bitch to grab that pre-historic monster.

The best cookies I've ever had were made with turtle eggs.

Ugh, and there's why I will never be keeping a turtle. Gross PITA to clean.
