I should have posted pics from last two weekends. Huge bluegill from clear water. Had lots of purple bewteen the scales.

nice, I miss bream fishing

dad used to have the hook up on a place that could produce 50+ nice keepers on any given afternoon, but the old man drained it because the bass were overpopulated

nothing like screaming drag on an ultralight

Four types of bream:

Blue Gill
Red Ear
Long Ear
War mouth (goggle Eye)


Your fish looks like a blue gill. I have caught 100's that look just like that.

Am that isn't the same fish that was in the OP, is it? The first fish's fins looked different and the dark spots don't look like they're there in the 2nd pic. The 2nd is definitely just a bluegill but I still think the first one is a stumpknocker.

Yes.

Also, I haven't read this whole thread so maybe it's already been mentioned, but some of the species hybridize with each other. This can really complicate the already complicated ID process.
