Now Polian is playing a different role, analyzing the draft for ESPN, and he was asked to pick the best quarterback in this year’s draft. Polian’s surprising answer? Oklahoma’s Landry Jones.

Polian said he attended the 2011 Oklahoma-Texas A&M game and watched Jones complete 18/38 passes for 255 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and Polian thought Jones compared favorably to Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was last year’s No. 8 overall pick and is now the Dolphins’ starter.

“He was a good one, and when he had a good supporting cast around him, he was great,” Polian said of Jones. “I was at the game in Norman where he beat Tannehill head-to-head, in a very, very fierce wind. So this guy has been a winner, he’s got stature, he’s got arm strength — he can make all the throws. He sees the field quite well, and he’s a natural leader.”

“I don’t think anybody in this group is going to be able to step in right away and lead the team, but if you ask me, who’s the guy who’s most ready, and who’s the guy who’s had the most winning experience, it would be Landry Jones,” Polian said.

With this year's group of QB's you could suggest any of the top 8 QB's and many be right. A lot have their positives, but also have a lot of negatives. I personally think Tyler Wilson will be one of the best when it is all said and done.

Not saying it won't happen but I just don't see it. He was pretty mediocre in college and I just don't see him lighting up the NFL. But that's just me..

Polian also spent a #1 pick on Rob Morris.

I firmly believe ESPN tells analysts to choose random players to talk up to "spice up" the draft.

Landy Jones was projected to be a high draft pick two years ago, so maybe he views his recent performance as an anomaly. Then again, maybe he hasn't watched college football in two years.

Landry Jones is one of those guys who seems to have started forever, yet never really broke out.

Although he does meet most of Parcells' requirements for drafting a QB.

I don't think its going to take much to end up being the best QB of this draft, so this isn't as bold of a statement as some are making it. It's not like he's saying Landry will be better than a few elite prospects like last year's class.

i know he holds most OU passing records, but i'm so glad to get to see some new blood behind center this season.

i hope i'm wrong, but i just don't see him panning out in the NFL. i've never seen a more nervous qb under pressure than him.

Before long all Oklahoma QBs will be viewed like Texas Tech QBs. Products of the system.

47 percent completions and 255 yards against a defense that allowed quarterbacks to complete just over 60 percent of their passes for over 276 yards per game?

Pay me draft analyst money and I can come up with something better than that load of bullshite.

I'm not sure why he is so revered either. I know he won all kinds of awards, but I'm not sure what in the last several drafts of his at Indy can make someone think he could do anything except ride Mannings ability as far as he could. It also helped that the AFC south was fairly weak most of that time.

Bill Belicheck is following the Bill Polian formula right now.

Well, it was a success, you nabbed a Patriots fan with that cast. Are you going to throw him back?

Honestly, if Landry Jones had played at a place like Delaware with less expectations, he would be considered the next Joe Flacco.
