I like, although I don't know much about Mauti? He ILB or OLB?

this guy takes a decent jab at Will Smith here:

quote:

Sheldon Richardson is a steal if he falls this far, but it's sounding like he'll be available in the early teens. In fact, it's been speculated that the 49ers or Falcons could leap the Saints and obtain him at No. 14.

quote:

If Richardson makes it to New Orleans, it's an easy pick. He'd be a massive upgrade over Will Smith at defensive end. Smith is a poor fit in the Saints' new 3-4 scheme.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we got this guy. Just as long as we get somebody on the front seven of the defense or a tackle on offense, I'll be happy.... I think.

Yeah Mauti is an ILB. From Louisiana, went to Penn St.

So Will Smith isn't a fit but Richardson is? Based on what?

Really wish we had a second. I'd take Jesse Williams and not think twice.

I just don't see the Saints standing there at the end of the 3rd round with two Defensive Tackles. I know it is one of the most important parts of a 3-4, I just don't see us spending 2 picks on that position. I think the Saints look at their board and take the best player available at one of these positions: DT, OLB, S, or OT. If we pick up a DT in the first, we'll probably go for best player available from OLB, S, or OT in the 3rd. I just don't see any way that we take two DTs with our first 2 picks. If we had a 2nd round pick, then maybe we get a DT in the 1st and 3rd, filling another need in the 2nd. But, we have too many needs to grab two guys at the same position with limited draft picks.

if Jesse Williams was still there he would be hard to pass on. I could see it. BPA brah

I'd take that group. I mocked Mauti in the 6th myself.

As much as I love Mathieu, if Williams in there in the 3rd that would be incredibly hard to pass up. He could be a cornerstone in our new system for 10 years. I would just hope TM is available in the 4th somehow

there are an amazing amount of LT prospects that can be had 3rd-5th Rd that could come in and compete with Smith & Brown for starter reps

Williams is pretty much just a run plugger. Doesn't Ryan prefer more athletic NT's?

But other than that, I like their mock. Mauti, in my opinion would be worth the gamble in the 6th. His last knee injury, which was late last year, was from a dirty hit but until then he was playing lights out.

then drop down in the first, get an additional pick, and draft a different player with your first round pick. Or, draft a position of need. I just don't see us drafting a DT who "might" be able to play DE in a 3-4 in the first round and then drafting a "cornerstone at NT" in the 3rd? It doesn't make any sense.

People are going to come unglued when we draft Fluker in the first.

Richardson is listed at 6'4" 295. Speculation is he would play DE in a 3-4.

I almost feel like Mauti is a lock to be picked in the 6th rd. Local kid, big heart and great leader.
