re: Why do some people try to make you feel guilty about owning a purebred dog?

I just got a purebred lab for hunting with very very good bloodlines and its obvious the difference from the labs I have had that come from the pound or a friends dog having puppies.

He is obviously physically superior and smarter than other pups.

All of that means shite if you dont spend time with your dog and train it. My friend has purebred goldens that are shite heads because they were babied.

My family's dog is almost 10 years old, and we got her from a shelter. She's been a great dog.

This. Oh wait, it's all about "saving a dog from the shelter..."

Pffffft. Yeah right. Their cheap arse don't want to spend money on getting a dog.

well, not I. My dog is far superior in every way than every other dog i've ever met. and i'm not kidding.

he swims better than the ave lab i've seen/owned. jumps higher, runs faster and catches better than the ave aussie or border collie. he's absolutely beautiful and smart as shite. bastard was born under a barn, and i think his dad was a freaking coyote mix or something.

i feel good about getting a dog that could've ended up in a kill shelter. i guess that makes me a self-righteous prig and/or dishonest.

i rescued one from the shelter, he was in pretty bad shape, he'd basically given up, now he's an awesome thankful dog...

most dog owners feel this way about there dog whether rescue or pure breed. Not many people will say their own dog is an a-hole

Rescuing a dog makes you feel better about yourself

I like most all dogs if they're well socialized

So what if I spent $1800 on my dog.

you think he remembers being at the shelter, hated the conditions, and now is thankful to you everyday for rescuing him?

I think it is the "puppy mill" thing that upsets so many. I wouldn't buy from a pet store, but if I wanted a pure bred dog, I'd do it. That being said, I have 3 shelter dogs.

I get it all the time. My Boykin is in my sig image. She is a blast. I got her because the wife wanted a smallish inside dog, and I wanted a hunting dog so we settled on the smallest retriever - a Boykin Spaniel. People always look so disappointed when I tell them I got her from a breeder in Arkansas (I guess that means she is DEFINITELY inbred)...

Yes and I tell them the BMC puppy at the shelter was gone before we got to him and I had to find a breeder.

I have AKC registered Boxers and I love them. They don't have any health issues. 350 each

I know this doesn't apply to all, but all my friends dogs that were rescued have health problems.
