I just started playing but I am confused by something.

How is this a free game?

I haven't read up on anything. I just heard about it here in another thread and started playing. Id this basically a demo of an uncompleted game or is the game as big as say a diablo?

I only played the Diablo III demo but the graphics seem comparable to DIII.

So far so good. Although as I said, all I've done is kill the hill giant and get to the first town.

oh and the game did crash on me when I was messing around with the quality settings.

I'll check back Friday when I've had more time to play.

The TF2 hat business model.

Though from what I've heard, some of the pay features are a bit more useful than hats, but don't provide a competitive advantage over others.

I believe you can buy extra bank space and stuff like that. Not sure what else.

Pretty fun game. A bit repetitive.

Its free cause its in beta. But it will always be free

The new business model basically is offer games for free and convince people to buy stuff, aka donate, if they like it.

Some games are just cosmetic enhancements and fun stuff. Some games charge for more relevant enhancements

Also, the last act isn't complete iirc

Free 2 Play games stand to make more money than a game you pay for one time if they can get the formula correct.

I want to say if you bought everything in Planetside 2 it would cost you like $400.

I may be wrong on that figure but the good F2P games aren't hurting.

What's interesting about these free games is that they can make a lot of money off of a small percentage of players. I read a news article and the developers call these players "whales". They talk to some people who were spending 10,000 plus on games. There are people out there with a lot of disposable income and a lot of free time.
