Help, can't decide between XDM 3.8" 9mm or XDM 3.8" .45ACP?

First of all, I absolutely can not find this gun in stock anywhere in either .45 or 9mm black or bitone.
I would greatly appreciate anyone's help in deciding whether or not to get the 9mm or .45 ACP.

Also, if anyone knows where there is one in stock.

Ammo price or personal defense has no weight on my decision(I use a Judge for that). I don't conceal carry. I love the size and feel of the compact, and I just want to know which is the better overall gun?

Kinda leaning towards the bitone .45 if I actually found one, but I love the ammo capacity of 9mm

Higher capacity vs. larger bore. That's it.

It's a personal decision. 9mm = 45ACP for defensive offerings nowadays with the right hollow point ammo. And the XDm is an excellent handgun.

Shoot both and you will know which one is better for you, period. It really is that simple.

I've seen a few people say this, but what is the logic?
I would think the .45 would be way more destructive?

Have you shot both? How's accuracy/recoil compare?

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with either gun at the moment.
I have held them a while back at gun shop and fell in love with the feel/size. Read nothing but good reviews in both.

I just wish I could try both before I buy

9mm is lighter but is traveling much faster.

In this test, the 124gr +p 9mm beats out the 45ACP in both 200gr +p and 230gr forms.

Brassfetcher

I trust Brassfetcher and TNoutdoors9 as they do a ton of ballistics testing. Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p is one of my carry loads.

EDIT: This is my favorite 45ACP load though. It's intended for full sized handguns, but I have some Critical Duty mixed in my carry loads in my SR9c, so it should be just fine for a compact.

45ACP Critical Duty

This one may actually outperform all 9mm rounds since it's a heavy 45 (220gr) going almost 1000fps. There aren't many +p offerings in 45 that exceed 200gr bullets.

Bapple, this may be a different thread but do you find no use in a hammer outside of single action? You being a 1911 guy but also carrying striker fired guns...do you find the same feel without seeing the hammer?

That's ultimately what pushed me toward the LEM HK, it's a hammer fired gun with a striker, but the trigger can cock the striker alone. Just seemed the best of both worlds. The DAO is precocked, but it doesn't have to be.

As bullet technology has improved, it has improved at a faster rate for smaller bores. .45 still >>> 9mm, but they are both better than 20 years ago. That said, if you are a heterosexual American male, you neec to carry a .45.

Get the 9mm, then order a barrel and mag for the 45 and do the conversion. Problem solved

I'll sell you a bi tone 9mm with less than 20 rounds through it for $525.

I have an LED flashlight and laser that I spent 239 on that I'll sell with it for an even $700.

When did you buy it?
Why do you want to sell it?
Could you email me a picture of it?

I can not explain it but there is something about shooting a .45 that just feels right

it is more of a push vs a snap...not a very good description but shoot both and I am sure you will like the 45 better

Depends on what you want to use it for. If it's a carry gun, I would lean 9mm so you can hold more rounds. If it's a home defense or car gun, that isn't really a limitation.

EDIT: Forgot to reply to Gaston...

I prefer not to carry hammer-fired guns, but my home defense gun is my Beretta 96. I think it's up to the user really. But the 1911 design being single action does have the best semi auto trigger on the market.

That's ultimately what pushed me toward the LEM HK, it's a hammer fired gun with a striker, but the trigger can cock the striker alone. Just seemed the best of both worlds. The DAO is precocked, but it doesn't have to be.[/quote]

I shot one with the LEM and I wasn't a big fan. It felt like a two stage trigger but the first stage had too much resistance. It was still good, but I would prefer DA/SA over it.

If it works for you, then keep on keepin on.
