Adelman has talked about stepping down because his wife is having health issues, and it sounds like if he goes then Budinger, one of the regularly mentioned Pelican SF FA targets, will hit the market.

quote:

Adelman is the reason the Wolves traded the 18th overall pick in last summer’s draft to Houston, where Adelman coached Budinger for three seasons before the pair was reunited in Minnesota.

He’s also the reason a California kid wants to remain on the frozen tundra when he becomes an unrestricted free agent free to sign with any team this summer.

“I would like to come back,” he said. “I like the organization. I like the staff. I love Adelman.”

He saved the most important part for last there.

“That’s a big part of it,” he said about the coach who taught a second-round draft pick in 2009 the NBA game. “Our relationship, he knows how I play. I work well in his system. It’s [Adelman’s decision] going to weigh big.”

Adelman said before Monday’s home finale against Utah that he hopes to decide his future in the few weeks after the season ends Wednesday night in San Antonio, and after he and his wife, Mary Kay, meet with more doctors about how to prevent her seizures.

He's an RFA. Just because he wants to leave doesn't mean that Minny won't match an offer.

EDIT- UFA? Really? I thought he was an RFA who had been tendered.

EDIT 2 - Spotrac says he's an RFA, which disagrees with the article.

He's averaging 9 points on 22 minutes a game. Not a starter in Minny. Also not a good 3 Point shooter, which I would REALLY like to have at SF.

He would be a good complimentary player if you had stars at 1, 2, and 4, and your 1 and 2 could consistently knock down the 3. He would have to come for a pretty good deal, IMO.

adelman is a great great coach. sad to hear about his wife.

since we're dealing with david kahn, i'll guess that the wolves will not offer budinger a contract regardless of what happens with adelman

We may not be dealing with Kahn.

There is no word on whether he'll be retained or replaced.

like most of the wolves roster, he's been injured all year (500mp). he is at least an average 3pt shooter when healthy and he's a + athlete. he isn't a star, but is a swiss army knife type 3 the teams needs.

He shot 40% from three on 3.8 attempts per game over 58 games last season. Have to give him a break on this year's numbers because of the injury, but he's still tough to gauge since he was worse in his 2nd year compared to his rookie season, then had a pretty nice jump in his third year.
