I shot it in a deer plot as it was eating so I guess I killed it instantly and did not have time to react. Still had the feed in its mouth.

Could be. I'm no expert, but the guy I was with said he wasn't walking behind me on the way out.

Mangy coyote is probably the worst smelling live animal I have smelled. Possum is right up there with it.

An otter will make you gag.

Skunk, beaver, and mink are not that bad.

My vote goes to a.Fox with the Rat Snake in close second. Rat Snakes will emit the nastiest smell when they feel threatened.
