re: The Doritos Locos Tacos helped create 15,000 jobs

Regardless of what you think of the product, it was a genius marketing ploy by Taco Bell, it created a huge buzz and boosted the hell out of sales, then got the same wave again by waiting to introduce the cool ranch months later.

Haven't tried one yet

All I know is that I did not participate in the sales increase.

I'm not doubting that people spend more based on their priorities, but everyone has a budget.

I never tried the product. I'm mainly just speaking about the jobs.

You'd be surprised how many people settle into fast food jobs as careers. And actually live off of it. With benefits.

Maybe not so much Nola or even BR because of the demographics. But it many other places it is an honest living,

Do what you wish. What I do at present doesn't tell everything, but it isn't really about me, or is it?

Do place that really enjoy fishing have a lot of choices when it comes to quality fishing boats and fishing equipment?

Do places with snow and mountains have a plethora of ski equipment?

Do places that consider their food to be top notch and place a large emphasis on food have really good food?

Maybe not huh?

Agreed, but how we budget those funds will tell you what's really important to us, don't you think?

You owned that failed food truck, right? I can see why you're bitter.

And while we're on the subject, I remember one of your first posts on this board about how much you loved Popeyes. Wtf man

Never owned a food truck, but I do like the concept because the really good ones operate around principles that make food taste good and I like food that tastes good, which would probably explain why I spend time of a food board.

BTW Lester, lets be clear here. I am not attacking you personally. I'm just discussing important food related subject matter on a food board. That's all. I fail to see why I'm the one attacked as being an arse here, yet I'm also not the one making this a personal attack. It's just good sense. People spend money on what's most important to them, water is wet.

its about you when you seem to never think you could be wrong.

what you do doesnt tell me squat. if im not mistaken, caplewood is a chef, so ill trust what he says when the topic is the food service industry.

ok?

yes but they can maybe also have crappy food. just because a city is known for its food doesnt mean they dont have shitty options

True.

But why do you get so uppity about how people spend their money on food? That'd be like me getting irritated that people don't spend more money on quality video games and stop spending money on junk like Madden . You can't tell people what to spend their money on, and you can't get upset when people spend money on things you consider shitty.

As far as your point about expanding waistlines.. caloric content of fast food isn't really any worse than conventional restaurants.

That's a bit odd coming from this board. However, if I am wrong, then a calm adult discussion of the merits of different points of view might go a bit further than attacking people. What do you think?

I mean, this is a food board.

Tone and inflection is difficult to relay on a board. I'm just talking to people about food matters that I would think would be of interest to foodies posting on a food board. In much the same way someone discussing LSU football does on the Rant, and is on interest to people who share a common interest like that.

Nothing I am saying is something you wouldn't hear someone working in a serious kitchen say, or perhaps someone who is really into food and wants to see their community become a better food scene.

.

re: The Doritos Locos Tacos helped create 15,000 jobs
I suppose. I guess I just don't understand it. I don't think I've ever even eaten at what would be considered a gourmet restaurant. And honestly, I can't see myself justifying spending $40 an entree for food (and that's not even expensive by gourmet standards). But to each their own.. I didn't expect a taco bell thread to turn into this kind of thread
