The Seattle group led by Hansen and Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer announced Friday night they had reached agreement with the Maloof family to raise the purchase price of the Kings by $25 million to an NBA-record $550 million.

Somebody would actually pay 550 mill for the fricking Kings.

I approve of this as I want to move to Seattle

They're paying for the Supersonics.

Big market in Seattle with no team. Makes sense for them.

They are paying for the rights to an NBA team

So why did they lose the supersonics in the first place then with such a big market?

The team they are paying for is the Kings. I know they would be rebranded into the SuperSonics but it'd still be the Kings, just with a glossy new green and yellow paint job.

lease and arena is the reason why the supersonics left for OKC

Also the OKC owners flat out lied about their intentions for the team when they bought the Sonics

Because Clay Bennett is a grade A count.

meh.
a couple of things:
stern appears to be on sactown's side and has said money doesn't have to be equal. relocation needs 22 yes votes.
and
extra $25million is nothing at this point. sacramento has the money to match if necessary.
this seems more like Hansen reiterating his desire for the next franchise available- either relocation or expansion.

whatever happens the losing party will file a lawsuit against the league and you can book that

Stern can just solve the problem by giving Seattle new team. Idiot. He'll go global soon, maybe not in his career since he is about to retire, but that is there intention. So. what's the harm in letting SAC keep there team and giving Seattle a new one? He said he would do that awhile back anyways.

i do find it odd that he went to great lengths to find someone to keep the hornets in nola but he will let the kings go to seattle when there is a local group wanting to keep them in sacramento

Six years ago the Sonics were sold for $200 million less than what is being offered for the Kings.

Bennett was a douche but anybody who believed he was actually gonna keep them in Seattle is foolish.
