What is the allure of going to golf events?

Seems like you would miss all the good stuff.
Do you just follow your fav golfer?
I guess this stems from everyone saying going to the Masters is on their bucket list.

I don't say that

It's generally for fans of pro golf and golf in general.

I only like to go when I have a tent pass at the Zurich. Champions club on 18th fairway...all you can eat and drink. I usually get drunk.

I dont get it either. I hate going to events and I love golf. Of couse in my warped mind, I get pissed because I always think I can play just as good as the guys im watching

You appreciate their skills a lot more after seeing them in person. It's worth going just for that.
Yeah, following your favorite golfer around is fun.
Sitting on a cool par 3 and watching them knock down pins is cool.
Just walking around a course that you'll probably never see otherwise....just enjoying being outdoors in general.
Hearing the roar of the gallery when something good happens.
It certainly isn't for everybody but going to other sporting events isn't either.

Depends where it is.
Like Pebble - you get cheap access to the famous course and spend the day surrounded by the beautiful California coastline, beach access is right near and people make a full excursion out of it to dine in Carmel-by-the-Sea, do 17-mile drive and Big Sur.

Your point is valid. You miss a lot of the good stuff in person. I wouldn't want to be at Augusta on Sunday afternoon. I like going to the Zurich though because I don't really care who wins, and I love watching these guys play in person. I'm a single digit handicap, but these guys play a different game from me. That's what is so appealing.

Some of us thought that we'd be seeing you play on TV back when you were in high school. Not kidding either.
I love going to the Zurich just to watch how well a ball can actually be struck. I usually will pick a group on Thursday and follow them for their round then just sit by 9 or 18 after that. Last year I followed Bubba, Webb Simpson, and Stricker on Thursday morning. This year I'll be marshalling on 10 all week. For $50 bucks you get 2 week long passes, parking, food, shirt & hat, and a free round at the TPC; pretty good deal for just standing around saying "Quiet Please"

You have to pay to volunteer?
I'd like go to the Zurich one year but it is always the same weekend as Jazz Fest and I like Jazz Fest a lot more.
I've been to the Byron Nelson a few times and it was a blast.

Ive personallly met john daly and had him autograph an old college card of his that he didnt even know existed. You don't get that in other sports or on tv.
Oh shite. Why didnt I think of that
