Exactly. Even if Florida goes Sugar, we definitely don't fall to Peach Bowl status.

You can never assume wins in sports. LSU laid an egg at the end of the Florida game. If LSU gets blown out by UF then maybe I agree. That game was practically won, and LSU could not put the game away.

It happened two more times in the season, and nearly happened again vs Ole Miss.

I think the schedule is very fair.

Bama: UK, UT
TAMU: Vandy, MIZZ
LSU: UF, UGA
Auburn: UT, UGA
MSU: USC,UK
OM: Vandy,Mizz
Ark: UF, USC

Another thing. I am all for having balanced schedules within the conference.

However I think the current bowl system has contributed to teams choosing to water down their schedule.

No one really wants to see LSU plow through the bottom of the barrel all season. However teams feel the need to limit the amount of games they could possibly lose. This is because the current system is more favorable to power conference teams with the cleanest records.

Personally I like when LSU plays UF and UGA bc it provides for a high quality game. The 2011 season was great in that they beat so many good teams.

If you want to be the best then you have to beat the best.

Not really. Georgia and Bama got to the SEC title game last year due in large part to easy schedules. Yet, the winner of that game had a spot in national title game on lockdown.

No you don't, not if your Alabama. Well, atleast you don't have to beat them the first time. You don't even have to win your Division.

It sure was...but you know why it was so great? Because it was an anomaly to make it through a gauntlet like that. In other words, when teams play schedules like that, even when they are great, they don't win them all, and therefore do not play in the big game.

The question then becomes...based on percentages...would you rather LSU play the most entertaining schedule, or a schedule which puts them in the best position to play for championships? Despite what happened in 2011, that is almost never possible with both. Put another way, do you think BAMA fans would trade us our schedule in 2011, 2012 and 2013 so that they could have played a more challenging schedule, or do you think they'd rather keep the titles?

quote:

If you want to be the best then you have to beat the best.

While this makes a neat bumper-sticker, it just isn't true. See: 2011. BAMA split with LSU and avoided UGA entirely in 2011...seems the consensus was they were the best. They managed that with a far shittier schedule than LSU.

LINK

This could be a possible reason.

They may have better politics by proximity.
Birmingham is less than an hour from Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has 24 SEC Championships in 80 years, while competing with at least nine other schools for the majority of that time (1990).

I would just rather our fanbase not look like whiny bitches. As terrible as the scheduling imbalance is, if we dont choke against alabama last year, we likely win the national championship.

If the fanbase has no complaints, then it's probably not seen as a problem.

Catch-22. If you complain, you're whiny. If you don't, well, it must not be that big a deal, right?

you speak as if LSU controls its conference schedule. the only scheduling LSU controls at all is the OOC games, and we haven't really backed down from scheduling real schools ... we've usually one formidable OOC opponent and reduced them to shite.

Remember when "Strength of Schedule" was part of the BCSCG formula?...Someone, anyone?

Connect the dots. Low came to ESPN from the Tennessean where he covered Tennessee where Fulmer was the coach and John Chavis was the DC.

Think Chief's number is on Low's speed dial?

That is more of my point. Power conference teams don't need this anymore.

I get that all anyone cares about is a crystal football at the end of the year. However, you keep hearing about how a playoff system takes away meaning from the regular season.

I would argue that a playoff system allows teams to make riskier schedules during the season. If you didn't win your conference then you better have beaten someone good to have a shot at an at large pick.

It also means a fluke loss isn't a national title dream killer.

Yet another reason I hate the thought of a college football playoff. Despite BAMA's rejoicing at having won the NC in 2011 without having even won their god damned division, I want no part of that for college football. Win your conference...it ought to matter.

But, much like deciding what's important about the sport (my examples of an entertaining schedule or one that lends itself for a title run), it brings up two scenarios. Do you want a playoff where a team that had a lesser year plays its way into a playoff, gets hot, and wins the title...or do you want the team that wins the title to be the best approximation of the team which was the best team that whole season. A tournament gives you a champ...but it's not necessarily the same champ you'd get if you were awarding the team with the best season.

for my money, I want the champion of college football to be the team most would look back on and agree was the best team that season. That can ONLY happen with a VERY small playoff system with no more than 4 teams. Any more than that, and in a one and done system you're going to have a Cinderella frick things up...which again, may be what some like. Not me.

When Alabama gets two practice scrimmages while we are beating our brains out against USCe/UGA and UF every year, it's a little easier. To say nothing of the relative health the 2 teams arrive at said critical game in. Little easier to rest your players and not have them get hurt against #86 Kentucky than #8 USCe.

I dont think so. I never said the scheduling wasn't bull shite but me crying about it wont change anything. Low has a public forum and can make more people aware of this problem.

Who made Low aware of it?

Fans of the SEC, fans of Alabama?

You are truly insignificant, you said so yourself.

Why can't Miles protest about it? Because his crying won't change anything. He'll look just like harry coleman beast if he does that.

A whiny,crying bitch.

I'm glad you didn't stoop to that level, man. Not sure who I'd look up to then.

If they played our schedule its possible they dont make the bcs championship gane either year.

I mean we beat them in tuscaloosa and had to play them again.

Not in the sample I cited.

2011 was an absolute sham pulled by ESPN. No facts whatsoever were presented regarding Bama's mulligan.

Like I said, they got their way two years in a row (Bama/ESPN) but NOW they want to talk about the rigged system?

LOL

CFB is such a farce now. It is laughable.

Yep. They didn't have it as bad last year though. LSU is the only school to get slammed with both "bridge" schedules. And not just Alabama, take a peak at A&M's favorable East slate. Although A&M at least played Florida last year.
