JaMarcus Russell says there was never a plan to have a pro day in the first place, so it really wasn't cancelled this week. No trips are planned either until Russell loses more weight.

"Everybody's kind of waiting to see where his weight is, and when he gets close to weight they want to bring him in and evaluate him," TEST Academy CEO Brian Martin told Jim Corbett of USA Today on Wednesday.

Brooks: Mock Draft 6.0
After all the movement at the QB position, where will Geno Smith end up? Bucky Brooks figures it out in his latest mock draft. More ...
Corbett notes that Russell looked "impressive" in a workout on Tuesday in San Diego where he completed 51 of 60 passes with "sharp" accuracy, footwork and conditioning. Russell is down to 15 percent body fat and has lost 34 pounds to get to 281 pounds, but clearly he hasn't been able to get a team to bite on a visit. Russell says it's important to find "the right place that has that veteran I can go sit behind."

(As opposed to starting?)

Jeff Garcia, who is helping train Russell, mentions the Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears as two teams where Russell would love to land. It should go without saying that the former No. 1 overall pick won't be able to pick his destination, even if there is some interest. He still faces an uphill battle to get a tryout, much less make a team.

I will say that I'm really impressed with him so far. Hope he lands a team or at least gets some bites.

His muscle content has to be higher being older so I would think a lil extra weight as long as it ain't on the waistline is ok

His target body fat percentage is 10-14%, and I think we was near 20% when he first started working out. I'm really hopin for the best for him.

Not bad. He is showing a lot of drive. He does not have to do this, so it is impressive that it is pride pushing him to make a comeback.

If he's only 15% body fat why is his weight that big a deal?

Because it is embarrassing for your QB to be bigger than your Dlineman?

If he keeps up at the pace he is at, he'll get some visits come summertime. Wish him the best.

He's a legit 6'6" with a huge frame. 281 isn't too far off from a good weight for him.

As big as he was in HS and college, he apparently remains a late bloomer.

Honestly, when I saw those early reports with him above 300 pounds, and was only in the ~20%, range, I remember thinking - if he's lifting weights and training to get back in shape, increasing muscle mass is inevitable - he could be 270 or so and be 12% bodyfat.

If he's at 281 right now and 15%, he can play at that weight. I'm comfortable with that being equivalent to about 265 when he was a junior, and that's about right.

BS! I suspect it's primarily the low amount of available funds in his bank account and the "Want" for a job. All those first pick millions have suddenly vanished and it's panic time. He should have invested all that money instead of blowing through it and stayed in shape as well to make any potential comeback less difficult.

I when I read anything from the cheerleading squad that it's about "Pride."

I'm not saying that the 15% is correct or incorrect, but everyone is different. That chart means absolutely nothing.
