Will we ever see an animated movie win the Best Picture Oscar?

Meaning in our lifetime.

Only three have even been nominated for the top prize in the history of the award. Will the Oscar voters eventually become open to the idea of an animated movie being a serious contender?

I still contend that Toy Story 3 was the best movie in 2010.

nope the only way I see an animated movie winning is if this animated movie was dark and intense. Kids movies will never get a chance.

Doubt it. Not with it having its own category. Pixar (the only studio with any real shot) would have to create a film as good as Spirited Away to get within even sniffing distance of it, which is incredibly difficult to do, and even then I highly doubt they would give it to them. Pixar made the best film in 2008 and 2010 IMO, but one didn't even get nominated for the award.

Fantastic Mr. Fox was better than The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, and Slumdog Millionaire.

And Wall-e was still better than it. I did like Fantastic Mr. Fox, but I don't see it as a masterwork in the same way Wall-e is.

Wall-E was great as well but it was 2008 and up against No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood.

I feel like Wall-E was a strong contender. It should have at least been nominated, but a few Hollywood circlejerk movies got in the way (Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader. I liked Curious Case and Slumdog, so I can't knock them).

Those were in 07. The ones you listed were 08 films.

EDIT: And Fantastic Mr. Fox was 2009, so they weren't even competing with each other.

Wall-E and Fox? Wasn't saying they were. Was I? I'm confused now.

Anyway, my point was Fantastic Mr. Fox was Best Picture worthy.

That was more me, since I was under the false perception they were released in the same year.

Its a sequel, animated, and about talking fish. No way it wins, no matter how good it is. It may get the nomination, but that's it.

Was Fantastic Mr. fox actually good? Loved the book as a kid, never got around to seeing it.

I can see it happening in an off year for non-animated movies and there definitely have been some.
