This.

I've always said that Lake Pontch. is like bass fishing in the saltwater world.

What is the technique? 2 weeks ago I went to the tresles, rigolettes, catherine, etc. We caught 1 spec, 1 red, 1 founder, 1 drum. All too small to keep. We tried every bait we could think of.

Going out there tomorrow with a few buddies. The weather is calling for 18mph SE winds, but it seems the Rigolets should be relatively protected from a wind in that direction.

I'm late to the party since this fella may be out on the water already but with the way the wind was lowing the last 2 days, he's got no chance in hell of finding clean water anywhere, no matter what direction or speed the wind is blowing today.

Hope he enjoys the bumpy boat ride.

(My negative assertions aside, I'd still swap with him and let him be behind this desk while I was out on the water)

It's pretty complicated to explain on here, but actually relatively simple IRL.

For the bridges:
1. Which side to fish
On a falling tide you want to be fishing on the east side of the bridge and throw back towards the bridge. (opposite for an incoming tide)

2. The Retrieve
Let your lure get to the bottom keeping enough slack out to feel a bite. Once it hits the bottom pop it a couple of times, reel in the slack and let it drop to the bottom again. Repeat over and over until you're back to the boat. If you're not letting it get to the bottom you are wasting your time. A lot of times you will get a hit while the bait is falling back to the bottom. (most of the time a very soft bite)

3. The Tackle
Most of the time a 3/8 ounce jighead is adequate (with a heavy wind and tide you may need a 1/2 ounce). The plastic of choice is up to you. I've seen everything from an h&h cocahoe to the new matrix shad. For the longest time i was using hybrids. It doesn't really matter as long as you have the right color for the right water clarity.

I hope this helps. If you take this advice, please don't mess it up for everyone else out there. Be courteous of the other 50 boats that are going to be on the bridges this time of year. And please for the love of God, DO NOT ANCHOR!

That's what we were doing you over-assuming a-hole.
Using the Pontchartrain pop too.

Which plastic / color did you catch them on the other day?

I'm assuming you mean the silly sliding cork rig that Dudley came up with years ago. If you're talking about fishing with plastic, i apologize.

Think he is saying they popped/jigged it hard back to the boat.

I've been fishing the matrix shad and a variety of colors. Depends on the water really and what they seem to like that day. I can't give out all of my secrets!

Was taking about this. Some writer in LA Sportsman called it the Pontchartrain pop years ago. Used almost the same wording you just did. I would almost swear you copied it from the article.

Not really. Maybe it's because they're the right price. Or better yet, because i've been ripping fish out of the water by the faces with them!

I "rip fish out of the water by the faces" without using the LASM endorsed bait.

It seems to change every couple of years out there. For a few years all i fished was the deadly dudley (dude was my baseball coach growing up). Then i moved to the hybrid for a few years while still fishing some of dudley's stuff. Now i've been fishing the new bait without "endorsing" it again just because i have A LOT of them. When chas first started getting them in i got a bunch of them for stupid cheap. I still haven't tried the new shrimp creole color. Haven't had to yet.

Deadly dudley is my go to. I hardly ever fish the ponch though.

Deadley dudley has been the best as of late.

Used to catch them on H&H, then it was tsunamis, then salt water assassin. Now it's been dudley.
