Expect an announcement in the next couple of weeks that the Wild’s long relationship with the Houston Aeros is ending. The Wild has not been able to come to terms on a new lease at the Toyota Center.

The Wild is expected to relocate its American Hockey League affiliate to Des Moines, where it will play at Wells Fargo Arena.

Damn!

This won't help Houston get an NHL franchise.

You probably remember the sinking of the Lusitania.

Or it might help. How were they supposed to play a NBA, NHL, and AHL schedule in one arena. They all have the same season.

Houston might be able to land a troubled NHL franchise.

I went to a lot of Aeros games when they played at the Summit/Compaq center. It was more convenient than heading downtown for me personally.

Gordie Howe is rolling over in his grave.

It's a shame the NHL didn't absorb the Aeros back when all that was going down.

They almost never filled the Toyota center, and I can't see any professional team to stand much of a chance either, but who knows. I'm sure Houston has enough other workers to generate a visiting fanfare for a while, plus they can't do half as bad a job going bankrupt as any of the other 22 NHL teams, so why not us?

Btw, I probably would have a hard time rooting for another Houston hockey team not called the Aeros

what minor league teams fill top level pro arenas?

the Aeros usually had one of the highest attendances in the league.

an NHL team could work in Houston IMO.

it could create a pretty cool rivalry with Dallas as well (if they don't end up in Seattle )

There is a big Canadian base in Houston due to the oil and gas industry.
