Best/Most Affordable Gas BBQ Grill Suggestions

I want to get a gas grill. I have a charcoal pit, but want to get a gas grill to replace it. I know absolutely nothing about the. I looked at some at Lowes and Home Depot, but I don't know what brands to look for, what price is too much. I usually cook for my family of 3, and the occasional company of 3-6 more people. Also should I wait until a certain time when sales are going on, for instance fathers day, or whenever.

Weber genesis is good quality for the price. They run about $700. Not sure if you're looking to spend more or less. Charbroil makes some decent models, but the quality is a step below. I think it's worth it to spend a couple hundred extra for something that will last.

Best grills between $250 and $500.
I have a Huntington. It's fantastic. Way better than the disposa-grills I've had from the big box stores and not that much more expensive.
Can be hard to find though.
Onward brands are great bang for buck.

I think 700 is pushing it for me. Although I would pay for quality. I don't know how much really I am looking to spend, but if I had to put an anchor down, $700 would be the ceiling. Thanks, I admit though Weber is a brand that I have heard of in regards to pits. Thanks.

I paid about 450 a few years ago for a Char Broil TRU infrared and would not recommend it. The infrared screens are impossible to clean after a while. The grill wants to fall apart when you take it out and if it does it is a bitch to put back together. The angle irons and registers are the same thing as the el cheapo 100 dollar grills and will rust apart way before the stainless steel exterior does. Not to mention all 3 thermometers and the ignitor crapped out really quickly.
Unless they have made some improvements on the design, stay away.
The food of course comes out great though. My next purchase will be a round one with the smoker box on the side.

That list reminds me that Weber has a line that's a step below genesis but still good quality and less expensive.
I have a friend who bought a charbroil infared and has had similar problems. They look nice but fall apart pretty quick.

Had a Charbroil and it went to complete shite in 2.5 years. Loved it when I first got it. Now have Weber Genesis.

I heard that this line was made in China now, and the quality was not near as good.
If you get an address change packet from the post office, they used to have a 10% off coupon for Lowe's. That would save $70 on the Genesis. Save another 5% by getting a Lowe's Card. Now you're looking at only $595, instead of $700.

Weber Spirit line is made in China.. Yes not near same quality as genesis line. Still better in build than charbroil but not as much.

What's bad is the particular grill I purchased was on a 10 best values list when I got it.
I've tried to find the one Alton Brown used on Good Eats. It looks really well built but not absurdly pricey.

I have the Spirit S-320 I bought in 2007. Paid a little under $400 for it back then. I wanted an upgrade from the $200 Charbroil/Brinkmann shite out there. I didn't know it was made in China until a few years later. Now compared to the Genesis line it make look like a step down but it's still hands down better than any grill I've ever owned. 6 years later and the only thing I've ever had a problem with is the electronic ignition switch and that just broke this past year in Isaac. Some moisture built up in it. Other than that it's been the perfect grill. Heats perfectly even, no flare ups (if you keep it clean), I can control the temperature from around 200°-600°+. I don't even know how hot it can get because the thermometer stops @ 600°. When the time comes I'll upgrade to the Genesis and probably hand the Spirit down to my nephew and I'm sure it will still be fine.

I believe the one I have always seen Alton Brown use on Good Eats was the last generation Weber Genesis. With the controls on the side.

get cast iron grates
I used to always thing this too until I was introduced to the stainless steel grates for my Weber. Cooks just as well and far less maintenance, like zero.
eta: To the OP. Keep in mind that if you spend $4-500 now on the bottom of the line Weber you likely won't buy another grill for at least 10 years. If you go the $2-300 ranges you'll be shopping again in 3 years.

We have had four or five over the years. All higher priced units and all crapped out in one way or another with spark ignitions going quickly and burners shortly after that baffles going about the same time. Bottoms burned out in two years give or take. I use a grill a lot snd still have the heavy plate steel charcoal girl with fire box off one end that I bought thirty years back. Really heAvy and impossible to move even with wheels that still work after 30 years. I cook on it at least once every week if the year snd some weeks every night. Some weekends twice a day.
Thing is, I like charcoal and smoke better anyway. Start charcoal with a chimney and sheet of newspaper. Have gone through thirty if those. Need to go hsve one made of quarter inch plate.
