This is what I'm doing, just in reverse since I just got the Sapphire Preferred. Using the Freedom and the Sapphire in tandem seems to be the way to go for Ultimate Rewards points.
I had to chat them up a bit for Sapphire acceptance, so I'm gonna wait a bit.

Didn't want to search for NFL card.
My 40,000 point posted the second after $2,500 spent.
Between nfl and sapphire. $857 reedemed on 5k spent for furniture, paint, lawn mower etc. All things needed for the new house we just moved in to.
Not a bad return.

Not sure if the nfl extra points is running the $400 after $2,500. No annual fee.
Sapphire has $400 or $500 if on travel after $2,500. Annual fee is waived the first year.
