Have some CDs maturing early 2014 at 2.5%

An advisor mentioned Municipal Bonds (Louisiana).

The muni bond market is enormous, no one here will be able to tell you everything you need to know.I would suggest doing some reading on investopedia about how they are structured and the risks involved. Some important factors to look at would be the tax implications of buying munis(in state or out of state) and whether the bond is revenue or general obligation.

There are a few LA muni bond funds that are both state and federal tax exempt. However, there are always bitcoins. Just kidding.
