Looking for flowers to plant around trees and other areas that don't get a lot of sun.
Any recommendations for south Louisiana?

impatiens = no sun.
vinca - full to moderate sun.
Marigolds can do full - moderate sun.
Caladiums .. the white/green ones do better in shady areas; red ones can take much more sun.
I also have geraniums in pots in full sun but they're a couple of years old. Not sure what I did right with them!!

What tiger91 said, plus green-leaf begonias and hosta are good shade plants too.

Petunias say full sun, but in the deep south, not so much.
Vinca is full sun.
Impatiens is no sun and lots of water.
Plant Lantana and be done with it. Run em over with the mower in December or January and they be great next summer too.

Lantana stinks and can take over a flower bed if you don't watch out. I have it ... and pulled it out.

That's what I'm trying to replace. I hate that stuff. It is dead most of the year and looks like a weed to me.

Petunias don't require too much sun and are a nice looking plant .

You're using the wrong kind of Lantana then. Maybe the old variety? Most people call it "Ham and Eggs" or something? I'm talking about the hybridized smaller variety, gold in color. I believe it's called "New Gold" Lantana. Doesn't get out of control and doesn't get very large.

Maybe. I didn't plant it.

Just trying to figure out what I like. Annuals seem to have more color. I'm open to perennials.
