wait a sec- no triple for LBJ= not the GOAT but MJ is the default GOAT despite oscar's statistical brilliance?

Sounds like a convenient "ya but..." With LBJ haters.

I think MJ and Lebron are comparable, but MJ is the GOAT because of the championships and the palpable "will to win" that everyone saw in him. He possessed something intangible that very few athletes in history have possessed. I have goosebumps typing about it.

If LBJ averaged a triple double, that would offset some of the reasons MJ was considered better. I think thats what he was inferring.

Because if you weren't an idiot you'd know that rebounds are available on both offense and defense. Thus, he'd have roughly 30 more opportunities to grab 2 rebounds. As for the assists, just on the possessions alone it'd bump him up to roughly 8.5-9. At that point, he'd assist hunt a bit to get it because, if he had an opportunity to achieve that goal, he'd be interested in trying. Also, we could take into account the lack of defense being attempted by the majority of the league when Oscar played. Finally, my possessions estimate was conservative, other people believe there could have been 20-25 more possessions per team then, but we'll never know because they didn't record offensive rebounds or turnovers. If that's true, then the league would have been mostly fast breaks, and considering LeBron's ability in the open court against a transitioning defense, I feel pretty confident with my original assessment that, if LeBron played in Oscar's day, he'd average a triple double. I'll also contend that, if Oscar played in today's game, he wouldn't average a triple double.

If you weren't an idiot you'd know that his RATE of performance would at most remain constant and probably DECLINE with faster play due to stamina reasons.

7/93 = 7.5% chance of assists

.075 * 103 = 7.75 assists

It's called direct correlation and may be too simple for you to grasp.

7.8/190 = 4.1% chance of a rebound

Meaning there would need to be at least 244 total possessions for Bron to average 10 rpg

This doesn't even factor fatigue.

Retard.

This is the first season for me that I can begin to consider Lebron in the same breath as Jordan. He's really taken his game to a new level and seems to be adding new components on an annual basis- like MJ.

I think we are seeing him come into his own as an all-around basketball player and it is amazing to watch.

I agree with this, too many people get caught up in the MJ/Kobe/Lebron GOAT debate and are missing out of seeing one of the greatest players of all time play his best.

You're a moron. Learn math.

1961:
PPG: 236
FG%: 41.5
Field Goals Attempted Per Game: 115
Rebound Opportunities per Game: 115 - 115*.415 == 67.2

2012:
PPG: 195.2
FG%: 44.8
Field Goals Attempted Per Game: 81
Rebound Opportunities per Game: 81 - 81*.448 = 45.4

Additional Rebound Opportunties Per Game: 67.2 -45.4 == 21.8
Lebron James Avg. Mins per Game: 38.12
Lebron James total rebounding %: 13.1
Lebron Current Rebound Average: 8.1
projected rebounding average: 8.1 + 21.8*(38.12/48)*.131 == 10.37

Additional Assist Opportunities Per Game: (115-81)/2 *.44 = 7.48
Lebron Assist Percentage: 36%
Lebron Current Assist Average: 7.2
Projected assist average: 7.2 + 7.48*(.36)*(38.12/48)== 9.3

Wait, MJ gets to hold the title and Lebron can't because Lebron can't do something that MJ couldn't do? Whoa, you lost me there.

He took 95 possessions per team and multiplied it by 2 for 190 possessions for each team. The ultimate irony is that doing so doesn't even make sense because there can be multiple offensive rebounds per possession.

Also, I'd like to point that assuming a direct correlation is silly. Throughout history we've seen when a player has an opportunity to reach a historic plateau, their behavior changes. Obviously not always, but generally. If LeBron had 15-25 extra possessions a game and he thought averaging a triple double a game was possible, his behavior would change. He'd try harder to get that extra rebound. Maybe pass a bit more to grab a couple extra assists. We saw how the Heat's behavior changed during the win streak because they wanted to try to break it. We saw the '96 Bulls gun for 70+ wins. We saw Kobe gun for 100. Wilt gun for 100. Pretty sure we're watching Melo gun for the scoring title right now. The examples are numerous.

95 possessions today for both teams today = 95 * 2 = 190

Is it that hard?

So rebounding rates would be current rebound average per average possessions for both teams combined today.

rpg/tppg = rate

7.8/190 = .041 rebounds per possession

Take that rate plug in 10 rpg to solve for new tppg and VIOLA

10/.041= tppg = 243.9

tppg/2 = 122 for possessions per team per game

There's no rebound off a made shot.

ETA: Listen, you're borderline retarded. Just look at my numbers. They're right.
