Ok here goes: the kids actually wanted to go to Santa Fe Cattle Co that just opened in Broussard( i know , chain but it was their night to pick). It was standing room only so i headed into laffy and remembered hearing good things about this place. We were sat right away, party of six at 6:45 on a friday, very happy with that. OK the bad first, what little there was. The jalapeño grits had a good pepper flavor but were pretty bland, i never add salt at the table but had to here . The food was very reasonably priced but $4.75 for a draft Canebrake and $2.49 for kids drinks in styrofoam cups seemed a little steep.....

Now the good:

Appetizer of cured gator with a buerre blanc butter and homemade pepper jelly and toasted baguettes .... Also what seemed like a hash of boudin and sausage served over a jalapeño grit cake.... These were both very good, the cured gator and pepper jelly were amazing

I had braised short ribs with jalapeño grits and grilled zucchini. The ribs were absolutely amazing, falling completely off the bone and the zucchini was fresh and very good

Wife had grilled mahi mahi with asparagus and the sauce was called a "mimosa drizzle" . It was champagne based but thick and had a great citrus taste and the crabmeat on top was perfect

Daughter had grilled chicken with a sweet chili sauce. The sides were grilled veggies that were actually grilled ( not like some crap you get in restaurants ), and potatoes that looked like home fries... Again, very successful dish

After careful consideration i give them an A, very creative menu. The staff was great, and the managers and even servers not assigned to you went out of their way to be friendly and polite..... Fairly small place with a good number of tables but it wasnt as loud as you would think and the tables dont feel squeezed together..... Good job, we'll be back !!!

Funny. I ate there for lunch today. Had the meatloaf, which is excellent, with a side of zucchini and their "hot" potatoes.

Waitress tells me they will be changing up the menu soon. That might be good in some respects, but in the restaurant biz, you definitely want to establish your popular dishes and dig your heels in with those. People come to your place expecting your core x,y, and z choices. Don't mess with success.

Bon Temps Grill is a solid recommendation for all foodies............some OTers............and few Rantards

And didnt mention prices. For two adults, two teenagers and two kids we spent barely over $100 before tip. That's with 2 appetizers, 1 beer,1 glass of wine , 4 entrees and two kids meals . The entrees run from around $10 to $25(steak) but average around 14 if i remember correctly .
