Today makes 19 years since Cobain's death and 11 since Staley's death

Has it really been that long?
ETA: Didn't realize that Lane Staley also died on the same date.

sure doesn't seem like it.
I was more upset about Layne Staley's death. Nirvana was alright, but I think Cobain's death made them more popular just because. Kind of like Heath Ledger's death made his performance as the Joker that much better

I remember sitting outside for lunch in high school when I heard this. It wasn't that big a deal at the time strangely.

Reason #78 for me to feel old.

19 years....that makes me feel older than shite. I think I shall shotgun a beer this evening in his memory.

That means 19 years ago today I was at a Smashing Pumpkins show in Biloxi.
Time flies.

No that's not correct. Nirvana was huge before that. If you are not old enough it's hard to appreciate how stale popular / rock music was in early 1991. Nirvana was a huge breath of fresh air. Nevermind knocked Micheal Jackson out of the #1 album spot over Xmas 91.

Me too. Cobain's death was long overdue. Right before that didn't he "accidentally" overdose on Rohypnol? You could tell it was only a matter of time with Cobain.

I'll disagree here. They were hugely popular and their star was burning pretty bright at the time. They just never had the chance to fade.

I talked a friend of my sister into to going with me (she didn't have the money and didn't want me to pay for her) at the Astroarena telling her you never know when one of these guys will kill himself. I would have guessed herion OD.

Just remember, without Curt Cobain's death, there is no Foo Fighters, which imo has been a much better band. Not as innovative, but far better music.

Anyone ever watched Gus Van Sant's Last Days? Pretty cool movie about Cobain.

Yes. A bit slow.

Staley was a recluse for the last few years of his life. AIC had to cancel a few big tours because of him. I don't remember how exactly, but I'm pretty sure his dealer had access to his bank account and just brought his weekly supply of heroin to his apartment. Staley's death was much more drawn out than Cobain's.
The documentary Kurt and Courtney is really good. It's mostly about how everyone hates Courtney Love and gets into the possible murder theory. There's enough evidence to convince me Kurt was murdered and Courtney had something to do with it but then again I like to believe conspiracy theories like that.

Pretty accurate. I do think that Nirvana came showed up at the right time. A lot of people are too quick to say they were only big because of his suicide. They were big because of the major shift in the music industry they caused. I still think their Unplugged was fantastic. I don't mind the argument that AIC's was better but the decision to play barely any of their hits made it something more.

This. Nirvana was a big deal and going to get even bigger.

Wrong. They were meant to burn out with Cobains death and the Foo Fighters took it further than Cobain ever could because of his problems.
