How did you go from this:

ESPN used twitter to get those dudes fired.

to this:

He was too lenient. He should have immediately fired the coach when he saw him and that douchy assistant coach physically abusing the players.

I think ESPN is using social media as a mechanism to assist in putting forth an agenda. I don't disagree with the firing, I was simply pointing out the social media mechanism that ESPN used to create the firestorm.

How bad were the players hurt? Broken legs? Large bruises? Any guess?
maybe some bruises? But, the results of wrong actions aren't what warrants punishment. He physically abused student-athletes.

Question for those of you who are defending the coach and AD: If a University professor threw a desk at a student, grabbed that student by his collar and threw him out of the classroom while calling him a fag, what would be the appropriate punishment?

A US university has bowed to pressure to sack its head basketball coach over footage of him physically abusing players and screaming homophobic slurs.

This is an example of the first sentence of most of the articles written about the firing. As if "screaming homophobic slurs" is a fire-able offense.

yea, lets just bold the second and less important point about the slurs and ignore the physically abusing the players bit.

no agenda there.

nope nope nope.

Because he the "highlights" were taken from a 3 year period. If a player had been hurt, I guarantee you we would have heard about it by now. At the very least, we would have heard about it this week.

re: Rutgers AD has been fired

none of that shite means a damn thing man.

you cant throw crap at people the way he was doing.

period.

end of story.

NOTHING else matters.

He should have been fired on the spot when that video was shown to the AD.

Anybody else does that in any other profession and they are done, no questions asked, no shits given.

The AD trying to basically sweep it under the rug with a fine and a small suspension was a joke and he deserved to get shitcanned for that too.

No he doesn't. The AD didn't throw a basketball at anybody's legs. Did it happen again after the suspension? Sounds like the AD put an end to the ball throwing. He did his job.

ESPN has no qualms about allowing Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame athletic director keep their jobs after Brian Kelly sent a kid up into a portable video tower in high winds and the kid died.

ESPN picks and chooses who they want to go after and who they want to protect.

Again, the coach should have been FIRED on the spot.

He wasn't and the AD should be canned for such a stupid decision.

People should have been canned at ND too but that has jack squat to do with this case.

Too bad, so sad the light shined a little brighter on Rutgers this time.

Strange that you condone this type of behavior by an adult

And that a fine of 50k and 3 game suspension is all that was needed

I just don't understand all the "rage" across the nation about this unknown basketball coach from Rutgers. Where was all this rage when someone died at Notre Dame (or the girl committed suicide)?

What's can be more harmful, throwing a basketball at player's legs, or throwing a baseball 85-95 mph at a batter? I've seen and can link you to several instances of this type of behavior yet nobody has lost their job over it.

So why all the outrage over the Rutgers administration?

And Sean Woods got a good amount of heat for it (rightfully so) and suspended for a game for it. That said, aside from yelling at a player in their game against Maryland there was no indication of a continuing pattern of putting his hands on players either.

I don't disagree with firing Rice but it's pretty obvious the Rutgers' AD is being used as a scapegoat because of the pressure from ESPN. At the most, maybe a suspension for the AD because he probably should've fired Rice when he first saw the video.

re: Rutgers AD has been fired

is there video of Kelly demanding the kid go up into the tower to film practice while wind is blowing everywhere? no?

then there's your answer to why people have a bigger reaction to seeing an a-hole get to keep his job after throwing shite at people on tape.

and stop trying to bring shite in like a baseball or 'oh it was just at their legs."

that is some seriously weak shite excuse wise my man.

the man was throwing stuff at his players with malice.

That should get his arse fired. PERIOD.

If a teacher started throwing basketballs at his students he would get fired with quickness.

It does not matter that he was a basketball coach when he did it.

That's the thing, a suspension is a very public thing. Media members are going to notice that the HC is not coaching for 3 games. Did no one ask why that was happening? Did they just ignore that he was supsended? Why all the outrage now? Why did it take 4 months for there to be an issue?

pernetti told EVERYONE why rice was being suspended, he hid nothing.

After the Tyler Clementi scandal, Rutgers cannot and will not tolerate the homophobic slurs by a coach. Pernetti condoned it and possibly the President of the University. Clean house

I think I almost lost faith in humanity

The coach deserve to get fired but you want to fire the AD too because he wasnt hard enough on them. So we dont believe in "Second Chances" anymore. The AD though that Rice could change but he didnt, so Rice was fired for that but oh no, they want to go after everybody. Seriously, it feels like everybody wants a witch hunt or something like that

So the story was out there 4 or 5 months ago and available for everyone to report on it. ESPN decided to not mention anything until the NCAA tournament is going on and now the coach gets fired.

That is bull shite to me. I understand the people that say he should have been fired from the beginning. That's fine, maybe he should have been. But he wasn't and everyone knew about it 5 months ago.

Why is everyone saying that the AD should be fired since he caved to ESPN's pressure but not asking why ESPN didn't blow this up in November when the story was first out there?

Clean house, refurbish the RAC and charge into the Big ten with a clean slate and some good players in basketball.
