Any Chevy mechanics around? (Paging downshift/greasemonkey)

I have a question about the 4 x 4 switch for a 2005 Z71 Suburban. It will not switch from 2 to 4, either H or L. Also, the lights, on the switch itself, changes from 2 to 4 but it never engages the front diff. Any ideas?

See if you can hear the actuator on the xfer case actuating. Most of the time, that is the issue. The only thing is, normally when the actuator becomes inop, the mode light will just flash in the desired gear then go back to 2wd.

It does this when I hit the button. The problem is, sometime when I get in and crank it, it comes up in either 4 H or L and even sometimes on the Red led.

Can almost guarantee it's the actuator. Common problem on Chevy trucks.Several years ago mine would click, light would flash, then click again, and light would go back to 2wd.

Actuator, 05 Z71's are notorious for this problem

Damn, i have the exact same problem on my 2006 Chevy Silverado Z71. 4WD Low will not engage, only 4WD High.

Thanks man, that is an easy enough fix. I hope that is the issue.

I wish that were my problem, actually, I would never know as I cant remember the last time I used 4WD Low.

It's been broken for about 2 years, never even bothered to fix it since 4H was still working. Now that i see how easy the fix is, I might actually get around to it

This is why I prefer a manual transfer case. All you gotta do is slam back the stick.

I may be wrong but yours doesnt sound like an actuator problem to me. Stupid question, I know, but you are going into neutral before engaging 4wd low, correct?

I figured someone would take the bait.
