Here's a great quote from the Troll Supreme in your avatar Love that avatar.

quote:

From the Court’s conservative wing, Justice Antonin Scalia has commented: “It is one of the unhappy incidents of the federal system that a self-righteous Supreme Court, acting on its Members’ personal view of what would make a ‘more perfect union’ … can impose its own favored social and economic dispositions nationwide.”

The Catholic Church is all over the place. I was reading on Facebook about a Catholic school in New York allowing gay couples to attend prom .

You are such a one trick gay pony. First off, the Catholic Church is not all over the place. That local school is in violation of scriptural teachingss. They are disobedient and Jesus Christ said that If you love me, obey my commandments.

Why are minors being sexualized and pushing sexual identity and why are you so excited about such? They are minors and if they cannot consent to sexual relations then why are you so excited about such? It is creepy just like when you post about Boy Scouts and call them haters. It's BOY Scouts, not MAN Scouts.

This is the local bishops call. As long as a bishop's decision does not go against CC dogma or doctrine he has the authority to change disciplines and/or administrative issues in his diocese.

People outside of the CC and many people inside the CC are always stunned when a change occurs in the CC. Changes do occur however they occur at the discipline level (and administrative level). If you're interested, read about the three Ds to get a better understanding of what can change and what cannot change within the CC.

From the link:
quote:

By understanding the differences between dogma, doctrine and discipline we have the ability to inform our family and friends, as well as anyone with whom the subject arises, about their confusion over what is necessary and what is not. I have met innumerable people who are well educated in many areas but have no idea about the essential differences between dogma, doctrine and discipline. I donít know how many times I have been in a discussion with someone who confused dogma with discipline not knowing that discipline can change and having their faith shaken when it does.

Oh look another catholic thread...surely this thread about religion isn't against the policies of tigerdroppings. I guess I will have to RA and find out.

My wife teaches at a Catholic school. They have a morality clause that basically says you have to practice and believe in basic christian values.

It's hard because I think these are a bit harsh, but technically they are Catholic beliefs anyway...

Why is it "harsh" to expect employees to follow the scriptural teachings at a church school?

It's about a school policy about what their teachers must believe and how they must live makes it political

One more thing. This woman needs to step down from the school board.

When you send your kids to a private school operated by a church or religious group, they're going to operate that school based on what the sponsoring group believes, whether it's Fatima, Ouachita Christian (Church of Christ--that's where the Duck Dynasty clan's kids go), Whatevername Baptist Academy, or whatever.

If she has that big a problem with what the school is doing, she needs to pull her kids out of there and find a school more in line with her views.

The more research I do, the more certain I am that this is the result of some brilliant lawyering to secure a religious exemption from Obamacare. The link articulates this position quite well.

'the HHS mandate recognizes the conscience rights of a religious employer only if it has the “inculcation of religious values as its purpose,” “primarily employs persons who share its religious tenets” and “primarily serves persons who share its religious tenets.” '

The clause pretty much puts the Diocese at 3 for 3 in the exemption requirements.

She could like the school as it is, but no parent is going to say they would rather have less competent but "holier" teachers.

Remember these schools are just pushing themselves as a place of religious education, but as places of higher quality education.

I suport that the school can do whatever it likes, and this is a fairly common policy among Catholic schools, but saying the parents who pay tuition should shut up or leave is dumb.

No problems with private institutions doing whatever they want. We may wish to examine their tax exempt status however.

I am glad of their morality clause. I would consider perhaps adding child molestation as a prohibited behavior...
