For coolness, and for working on every week, I'd suggest 76-86.

The latest JK is more advanced than ever before. The TJ some say are great because of the straight 6. Nice but I still think the JK is more advanced and a better looker. Sure and old CJ has a cool factor but you better know mechanics to keep it running.

Just make sure you get a 2 door

For a driver and weekend trail rider i would look for a 97-06 TJ with the 4.0L inline 6cyl.

ETA: I had a 2001 and regret selling it. Had the danna 44 rear end.

Seriously man, Jeeps are so overplayed. Everyone thinks they are cool and wants one. I'm not a follower, and like to live outside of the box. Toyotas are more reliable and have almost as big/solid aftermarket as Jeeps.

Don't do the same exact thing as everyone else. It has been done a million times. Your Jeep will be just like every other one no matter what you do. I can guarantee there is another one just like it even if you put 54s on the damn thing. Might as well get a F150 and keep it stock. They are almost that popular.

Get an early to late 90s Landcruiser or an earlier 95-04 Tacoma and go to town. Besides, they are more reliable from the get go. Better engines, stock lockers, solid axles, perfectly matched power to power train, comfortable, etc.
