I have a skillet that has developed some rust and I'm guessing it needs to be re-seasoned. How can I remove the rust without taking the black coating off? How do I re-season? I bought it already seasoned.

grab a 12pk, go out back, set a fire and burn it with a coating of oil and are lard....
I would recommend boiling salted water in it for about 20-30min. It will get the impurities out. then do the burn, with a wash afterwards.

This is an excellent article that covers probably more scientific principles than you want - it's like an Alton Brown description. However, it will probably work better than you expected.

Stainless steel wool(no soap in it) will certainly do for de-rusting.
