Are you talking about Support, the person in bot lane with you?

Some Supports are tanks, but not all tanks are supports.
There are also some AP mage type supports such as Morgana, Vel'Koz and Annie.
The tanky supports include Braum, Leona, and Alistar.
You also have another group of supports that brings amazing peel/CC: Thresh, Blitzcrank, etc.

I main support and I love it, but I will admit to you, support players almost never recieve thanks or credit and you never get kills.

you just went LoL nerd on me.. I have 0 clue what half of this means

Basically, I just need to learn one more class that will help me when everyone else is going ADC... because if I only learn ADC and everyone else goes ADC, I would like to be useful

The two jobs that have really helped me as an ADC are:

and

mostly, because both of them could pull enemies towards them and then stun them while I absolutely destroyed them with my lightning attack.

With both of them, in the 2 respective games, we absolutely handled the enemy and dual'ed our way into the bot's base and ended up finishing up the other two lanes for the other players because they were still like 2 towers back from the base, it was amazing.

Those two are solo lane damage champions but with hard engage initiators with very obvious visual cues. They aren't tanks, but can initiate a skirmish with their ultimates

At low levels, just play whatever you like. Learn what champs do what. Learn how to build items. Get your mechanics better.

You have the general idea right though. As an adc you wait for your frontline to use their abilities on a target before going in and attacking.
